I've never been totally won over by Carey Mercer. I'm not a big fan of Frog Eyes , and his songs were my third least favourite part about Swan Lake (behind the band name and the production style on Beast Moans ). His latest album as Blackout Beach intrigues me, however. First off, it's got an amazing title: Fuck Death . Yay for wild Canadians. It seems that Frog Eyes's Carey Mercer aims to be some kind of bookish take on Nick Cave's '80s danger, and I think that despite the think-lipped manners, he is in many ways equally unhinged. Blackout Beach is the unsettling solo side project of Frog Eyes / Swan Lake member Carey Mercer; you might remember the two tracks we posted from his last Blackout Beach album, 20082s Skin Of Evil . Mercer's got another Blackout Beach album coming out soon, and he's named it Fuck Death after a Leon Golub painting. One thing we know for sure, Spencer Krug hates down time. Since his debut release in 2002 with Frog Eyes, Krug has released 15 full length albums and 5 EP's under 6 different monikers ( Fifths of Seven , Sunset Rubdown , Frog Eyes , Moonface , Swan Lake , and Wolf Parade ).
