The rejuvenated Snowglobe Records returns next month with the third installment of its increasingly crucial Tiny Idols indie rarities compilations. And Vol. III is a doozy, featuring seminal tracks from important but under-appreciated acts including Small Factory , Poole , Fudge and The Coctails . The series is curated by our former Junkmedia colleague Mark Griffey, and based on the track listing he has certainly outdone himself once again. Tiny Idols Vol. III: Transmissions From The Indie Underground 1991-1995 will be released July 6 on Snowglobe Records, but you [...]
In the next to last episode of my Xmas Calendar, me and my hubby is making Christmas fudge. This might be a totally confusing episode for everyone who's not Swedish as we're making fun of a Swedish television show throughout the episode. I can't really explain any further, but whenever you see the indication "in a funny voice" you'll know we're not totally serious ... Here's the fudge recipe for all of you that want to make it at home, with or without the funny voice: Fudge 2 cups/dl of double cream 2 cups/dl [...]

"No one likes to be touched in that way. But in Nashville, that's what we do." So proclaimed Derek Brown of Spring Hill Spider Party, exhorting members of the crowd to fondle each other. But let'... Continue reading "Spring Hill Spider Party at Mercy Lounge 2/26/09" >
People who hate Christmas music just don't get it. Yeah, it's kitschy and starts playing in department stores in October blah-di-blah, but people who expend the energy hating it are usually just young and uptight -- overgrown spoiled children all. On the other side, you've got people who love Christmas music so much, they refuse to respect the seasonal boundaries. Like perennial misfit toys with sugar-stuck gears, they plug into the peppermint-bark sweetness of Christmas all year long. And we have one such fellow right here in KC: the merry Tone King , whose blog, [...]

This EP isn't as tasty as the Twitch Hazel/Technical Jed double 7"; it gets a bit sweet and drippy at times. But it's still a nice indie-pop treat. Released on Richmond, VA's Brilliant Records in 1992. Sample mp3: Fudge - Oreo Dust Entire EP: http://www.zshare.net/download /6007502fcd9133/

In lieu of a decent lineup of N-bands to offer you, here are my three favourite songs from Simple Machines' Neapolitan Metropolitan 7" Box Set, released in 1992. The three 7"s correspond to pistachio ( Washington bands Bratmobile, Late [David Grohl's secret band], Lilys, Whorl), vanilla ( Baltimore bands Tear Jerks, Candy machine Slack, False Face Society), and, erm, pink ( Richmond bands Breadwinner, Coral, Burma Jam, Fudge). What's pink ice cream? Strawberry? Sure, let's go with strawberry. The box set came with a consciousness raising booklet about Ben & Jerry's good deeds, as well [...]

1 star Just posted at archive.org , this is a 4 song release produced by BSWC friend, Lee Rosevere . I put the needle down on a couple of the tracks and it sounds great. Definitely, Black Sweater, White Christmas material. Thanks, Happy Puppy, you have really contributed to my enjoyment of December. Chester the Chicken - Egg White Xmas [...]
