Five years on from his last studio album, Willy Mason has announced his much-anticipated return with the release of 'Restless Fugitive' , the first track to be taken from his forthcoming LP. The album is as-yet untitled but was recorded throughout much of 2011 with producer Dan Carey (MIA, Hot Chip, Franz Ferdinand). Restless Fugitive, a slow-burning and intoxicating, six-minute track, is available as a free download from his Facebook page link below, so if you like what you hear then be sure to head over their and help [...]
We at HMCMB have been pretty keen on Bear Driver for a little while now. The 6-piece collective first came to our attention back in March last year, with their release of several free tracks in the build up to their appearance at SXSW, which you can read all about HERE . We instantly fell for the easy infectiousness of their hazy folk, so are pretty excited by the news that their debut album is now imminent. Better news yet is that ahead of said album release has come a double A side on Adventure Club Records, "Let The [...]

They Want their Name Back: The Real Fugitives Challenge Randy Quaid to a Push-up Competition Vancouver - If you want to take that "Six degrees of Kevin Bacon" game to new heights, here's one for you: Randy Quaid and Sade. Up until now there's been little to unite the British soul sensation and the American character actor, but they now share an obscure common thread: Vancouver based folk group, The Fugitives. A year ago, the group was two days shy of embarking on a cross-Canada tour to promote their latest album, when they realized something was [...]
The Fugitives were formed four years ago on Vancouver's East Side. The band comprises the combined talents of artists Adrian Glynn, Barbara Adler, Brendan McLeod, and Steve Charles. A group of multi-instrumentalists, songwriters, poets and novelists, their primary focus lies in banding together to integrate their sensibilities into a dynamic mix of modern folk. Band [...]
We're nostalgic already. Remember Kanye's album? That was dope. Seriously though, we had a great year and we hope you did too. Here's a little something we put together to put all our love for 2010 in one place. The list was made by averaging Matt, Steve, and Ethan's 25 favorite albums of 2010 (Arnold's opinion, though very highly regarded, was not included because he doesn't like to confine music to lists...or he just didn't make one). Click on the artist to see what we've had to say about them previously, and click the album art on [...]
I think for someone to get into the soundtrack, one would have to watch a season or two to get the general feel for why the music fits.

The Fugitives have been described as anything from 'folk-hop' and 'slam-folk' to 'spoken word cabaret'. However, on their latest album, 'Eccentrically We Love', out today on 604 records , The Fugitives move from defying classification towards more traditional pursuits; elegant, thoughtful, and intelligent folk-music. Yet traditional does not mean simplistic. Rather, the album is a contemplative set of coherent musings on topics close to home; any home of any body. From the opening line, 'a house is a snail shell/its walls are so thin/they tell of my neighbours making love [...]

Look, I need to say upfront that Lex Luthor is a genius. An evil genius, sure, but nobody's perfect. So when some guy on the Internet says that Christopher Nolan is the wrong guy to revitalize the Superman movie franchise, I say to myself, well, that guy's no Lex Luthor. When news broke that Nolan had been hired to shepherd the Man of Stee l back to glory, I wasn't thrilled, but not because I didn't think he was up to the task. My worry is that the silver screen version of superheroes could become [...]
This is going to be a new feature here on THaF . As I don't get sent everything that's coming out (would be bloody nice) I'm going to start putting up some of the new tracks that I like and buy. This won't be a daily feature and also won't be everything I get myself, just a pick of the days best tracks as I plod through them. Some days I might just be looking through some electro or some days disco or some house, so it should stay varied. Enjoy! [...]

Getting a bit sick of over-bearing garage influenced fidget basslines? Yeah, me too. So i suppose it's lucky then that A1 Bassline has drifted from his traditional slamming bass tunes to something a little techier, more refined and more interesting! Check it out: Fugative - Superfly (A1 Bassline Remix) Fugative myspace... J.
We have been meaning to post about all of these bands with some sample tracks for a while now. So, rather than continue to be well meaning, but ultimately ineffective in our efforts, we have rounded up some of the best and most interesting of them for your perusal below. Listen, enjoy and then buy if you want to support them!Golden Bloom released their album Fan The Flames back in August when the

Filed under: Exclusive , New Music , Northern Exposure , Canada It's been awhile since Vancouver alt-folk quartet The Fugitives have gotten around to releasing any new material, thanks to their packed touring schedule and outside pursuits (guitarist Brendan McLeod and accordionist Barbara Adler are accomplished poets/writers). But the Fugitives' new five-song EP 'Find Me' offers a short but sweet reminder of the band's "modern folk" sound before their full-length is released in March 2010. Sprightly lead track 'Breaking Promises' [...]

Red Pens to play the Fetus, Jason Isbell announces Turf Club date & Brother Ali-mania continues on the blogs.
"I really wanted to get away from that lo-fi bedroom, programming, Midi side of things," David Gray says of his upcoming September 22 album, the self-produced Draw The Line . First single "Fugitive" is in keeping with that credo, a typically spirited, head-bobbing affair with lots of piano pounding, quitar-strangling and Gray's always-antsy gyrations and half-shouted vocals keeping the energy level high. Does this guy ever sit still? No?
