Minus the Bear - 53rd & Memphis (Fog remix) (Suicide Squeeze 2007) Minus the Bear - Interpretaciones del Oso - Suicide Squeeze I know what you're thinking already: "Christ, you guys were doing so well there for awhile. Minus the Bear? Seriously?" or maybe "A remix album? Why?" or even "I thought they fired this guy. Blogs fire people, right?" But hear me out on this one, because for me it's not that it's Minus the Bear; in fact, as Three Imaginary Girls quite accurately described, [...]

If you've spent any time around here at all, you know that, in the beginning, there was Maestro Echoplex , which begat John Guilt . Eventually, John Guilt faded, leaving Andrew Spencer Goldman, solo, who, late last year, picked up the name Fulton Lights , and then promptly finished the album he'd been working on for the last three years. With help from a very large cast of very talented associates, including Oktopus and DJ Still (both of Dälek ), Andrew has put together a debut that, as the press release puts [...]

Fulton Lights is the current project of Andrew Spencer Goldman, he of previous works like Maestro Echoplex and John Guilt. And not to disrespect those projects, but early listens to this Fulton Lights disc should place it head and shoulders above his previous musical endeavours. I saw someone describe the music as indie pop with an ambient backdrop, I like that and dont think I could give it a better description. The album will see a release next month as a split between Goldmans label, Android Eats Records , and Catbird Records , [...]
The midwinter blowout continues at the Prize Closet, where contribution gifts are now available for $9 and $12. Thanks to the hale and hearty crew who've contributed! See what it's all about here. THIS WEEK'S FINDS week of Feb. 4-10 "Thank God for the Evening News" - Fulton Lights Satisfyingly moody and intriguingly entitled, "Thank God for the Evening News" unfolds with vivid style over an unhurried beat and minimal chord changes. Now then, I like chord changes and pretty much [...]
Fulton Lights is the newest vehicle of Andrew Spencer (Maestro Echoplex, John Guilt). Fans of Elliott rejoice, you finally have a second album to carry you through on those cold moonlit, snowy nights. This track is an amazing work that showcases the full gamut of Spencer's haunting songwriting skills. Spencer's voice floats tenderly over sparse track arrangements while a light drum beat and simple piano serve to lightly propel the track along. Without a doubt, this is an amazing song. You can check out Fulton Lights' [...]

one reason i dont report on too many "up and coming" artists is that i find it difficult to put my stamp of approval on an artist after listening to merely one or two songs. it may not mean much to you dear reader, but it does to me. i try to report [...]

4 NON BLONDES-LIVE AND ACOUSTIC If you remember the 4 Non Blondes, raise your hands and say, "Heeeeeey, heeeeey, heeeey, heeeey . . ." Before Linda Perry went on to be a millionaire/starmaker songwriter/producer for the likes of Pink! and Xtina, she was in a little band that had one hit but should have had many, many more. Here's a gig they did in December 1993, all acoustic, all fabulous. I'm providing links and alternate links this time. No complaining, please. Here we [...]

Download: Fulton Lights—"Thank God For the Evening News" MP3 Download: Fulton Lights—"Fire in the Palm of My Hand" MP3 With the help of a number of friends (including Oktopus of dalek and Jean Cook of ASM and the Beauty Pill), Andrew Spencer Goldman (formerly of John Guilt and Maestro Echoplex ) has turned in a tumultuous tone-poem that, to me at least, sketches the overwhelming feelings of today's urbanism . It's a work of beauty, but it's also a sublime work of unease, of claustrophobia [...]

I'm sure this record will be blogged to death over the coming weeks. First off, it's a great record, but it's backed by a PR hard working PR company as well. But to be honest, the reason I took a great interest in hearing it was simple - catbird records (a joint release with Android Eats Records). Say what you will about the influence and hype of blogs, Ryan over at catbirdseat.org does what every other blogger (actually, Justin @ Aquarium Drunkard has chucked his hat into the ring [...]
I honestly don't think Millenium Cable can do anything right. They screwed up my bill last month, then, after giving them a solid two weeks notice to turn off my internet for August, they did...but then didn't? I turned on my computer today to work on my project and my aim buddy list pops up. That doesn't happen when I don't have internet. So, somehow they turned my internet back on. I don't know, I'm confused, but I don't care anymore. Their mistake and all I'm paying is the disconnection fee (a huge ripoff), [...]

Wow. Like, whoa. Everybody just *loves* the Tap Tap ; don't you? We've been getting crazy response on this one. Limited-edition copies remain, but note that there are very few copies of the red, pale-red, and purple left. And remember a few weeks ago , I mentioned the new EP by Thomas Tap Tap's other band, Pete & The Pirates ? That disc'll be available this week in the UK from our dear friends at Stolen . There's a release show at the Spitz, 109 Commercial [...]
