Isn't great when a cover song merges two different genres together? Like when a pop star does a naughty cover a rap song, or a serious indie band digests the latest pop hit at the top of the charts. The only thing that can top that is when one band decides to cover another band with a similar ideology. CD101 Summerfest at the LC Pavilion sold out in record time. The lineup on the main stage featured Cake, She Wants Revenge, Company of Thieves and Sleeper Agent. The second stage (which was shoved in it's normal corner by the bar) included Cold Cave, Funeral Party, Limousines and local guys Old Hundred who won the fan vote. Funeral Party have let loose their visuals for the catchy single, "NYC Moves To The Sound Of LA" for your enjoyment today. The band recently performed on Conan O'Brien's TV slot and the video does a good job of conveying their on stage energy. As well as that it features some skull masks and body suits which is always a good thing. Funeral Party's "New York City Moves to the Sound of LA" roared back in the days of the dance-punks' "Bootleg" EP, and three years later on the East L.A. band's major-label debut "Golden Age of Knowhere," it's no less of a scorcher. In spirit, anyway, it reminds me of the 1977 song by the Randoms, "Let's Get Rid of New York."
