Jacob Bruce, under the moniker Vacations , has released a 7-inch via Play Pinbal Records. Bruce is known for his uniform vocals and Dick Dale-ish guitar tone as part trio known as Fungi Girls -these rural Texans have been shredding garage rock since before they could drive, and they still can't legally drink. Their influences include the 13th Floor Elevators, Piper at the Gates-era Pink Floyd, the Beach Boys, and the Velvet Underground, and you can hear a flash of those inspirations in each song the Fungi Girls crank out. While we were huge fans of Fungi Girls' earliest output, it's clear that the Texas trio has been practicing. Texan youngsters Fungi Girls popped onto the scene with a free download of an album and an excellent pair of 7"s for HoZac and Group Tightener. They return to the realms of psych-laced garage on their latest album Some Easy Magic . Hooks are plentiful but a bit obscured under the mounds of hiss and fuzz though this just adds a nice coloration to the band's easy charm and past-leaning songwriting.
