" The Bottle Song " was always one of our favorite R3hab songs, but it never really got the love it deserved in the club scene — quite possibly because it went a little too hard for normal clubbers. Well, the DJ Funkadelic remix takes the same chord progressions we've found so infectious for so long and turns them into a more downtempo underground club track that seems perfect for late-night raging. Unfortunately the official preview is just under two minutes long, but you can be sure we'll bring you more when we get to hear the full track in [...]
We take a look at several up-and-coming acts from this year's Outside Lands that may have been overshadowed by headliners like Arcade Fire and Phish. Their reputations for infectious and enthusiastic live performances is what earned them their time on stage, and also the reason for their surges in exposure after the festival ended less than two weeks ago. Look inside for audio clips.

Perhaps it's timely, while much of the 'civilised' West hops up & down at the beastliness of several Muslim countries - to note that the Scottish courts have yet again jailed the same man for the obviously dreadful crime of appearing naked in a public place... even when no-one has complained & no 'peace' has been breached. Clearly, the oppressive regime there must be crushed by any means necessary. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-s cotland-tayside-central-146493 94 ♫ Funkadelic - Super Stupid [...]

![[Introducing] – Stone Darling](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3646292_lg.jpg)
Tweet LA four piece Stone Darling are a shoegaze band with a hint of country. Or should I say a country outfit with shoegaze trimmings? It's tough to say which genre is in the driving seat with this group, especially when their latest seven inch is split so squarely down the middle. "I Stopped Missing You Today", all buzzing guitars and understated vocals, is pretty much straight up shoegaze, a catchy number that's really shaped by the one clear guitar line that does pierce [...]

Born Edward Earl Hazel in April 1950 in the borough of Brooklyn, Eddie Hazel grew up in the small central New Jersey town of Plainfield. While his mother maintained her job as a silk presser and commuted into the city, at 12 years old, Hazel began to teach himself to play a guitar his brother had given to him as a Christmas gift. In addition to guitar, Hazel developed his vocal skills singing in a local church choir. During this time, he met another musically inclined child, Billy "Bass" Nelson. Their connection was immediate and the [...]

Best Songs Ever - Just me digging up rare, awesome or obscure tracks. Today it's the 10-minute guitar epic from George Clinton's Funkadelic ... "Maggot Brain" is the opening track off 1971's Maggot Brain . The titular song features no vocals--save for the eerie spoken introduction--and little more than a soft arpeggio and drum flourishes. The spotlight shines fully on Eddie Hazel's blistering guitar solo, rumored to have been inspired by an LSD-taking George Clinton telling Hazel during recording to imagine his mother had been murdered, [...]

These guys are a rare breed. If you're keeping count, they've just been hit with their third lawsuit in a seven day span. Bridgeport Music Inc. filed suit claiming Weezy F. Baby, Baby and everybody who's ever had a baby in New Orleans illegally swiped George Clinton & Funkadelic's "Maggot Brain" for use in Wayne & Birdman's "Army Gunz" track for 20062s Like Father, Like Son album. Add the newest legal claim alongside the two previous ones from last week and these guys are fire...for all [...]

Time for another installment of Monday Music - the only post where SOIWT deviates from its London-only focus: Funkadelic - Maggot Brain Last night a friend bullied me into going to the Michael Clark Company 's Tate Modern performance, a contemporary dance show featuring professional ballerinas and hastily-trained, flawles s amateurs pirouetting and prancing over a stark soundtrack (including this edgy George Clinton number). I had many thoughts about the show, from Gatsby parallels to Saturday Night Fever recollections to adoration of its punkish tribute [...]
Punk and hard rock meet in this overlooked classic from unsung Detroit heroes.
Stone Darling, four women with a warm sound, bring a chilled groove to Funkadelic's 'Can You Get to That'

The whispery, harmony-glazed "All I Wanna Do" by Los Angeles band Stone Darling is the kind of lush and gorgeous pop confection that only takes a few seconds to forever nestle itself inside your collective consciousness. "Sing a simple song," Sly Stone once said. Here, Stone Darling turn simplicity into a dynamic mood-changing force of pop gold. All aboard. Stone Darling - "All I Wanna Do"

One of the many things I love about P-Funk mastermind George Clinton is his way with a song title. Though he's no Sufjan Stevens , he can get pretty wordy, which increases the chances of hitting a doublespeak candidate. Here are three then, one each from the first three Funkadelic albums (my favorite part of the entire P-Funk discography, where the psychedelic/Hendrix influence was still pretty strong): Funkadelic: I Got a Thing, You Got a Thing, Everybody's Got a Thing [ purchase [...]

I t's one of the best titles in modern musical history, for song and for album, and as a call to arms mentally and physically the promise of funk was never so perfectly stated. If it were just a title then there'd be little more to say, but happily, Free Your Mind lives up to it throughout as another example of Funkadelic getting busy and taking everyone with it. The title track itself kicks things off with rumbling industrial noises and space alien sound effects, before a call-and-response chant between deep and chirpy voices [...]

It has been a long while since we posted some Axwell , and it has also been awhile since we posted a quality mash up. Like most house music enthusiasts, I am not the biggest mash up fun unless I am throwing them in one of my sets, but this one really caught my attention. The original ' How Soon Is Now ' is an absolute anthem. I mean how could a collaboration between Guetta, Dirty South & Ingrosso not be an anthem? Also, Axwell's remix of 'Hometown Glory' by Adele was another absolute banger. Combine the two and [...]

Part three of this five part mixtape delves deep into psychedelia, surrounding the listener with a mixture of sounds blarring from every angle. I start off this section with "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" as played by Martin Luther McCoy. To many, it may seem criminal to include the Martin Luther McCoy version instead of the original. I feel that the original is an amazing song, written by George Harrison and played by the Beatles and with Eric Clapton. However, Martin Luther McCoy's version is a more psychedelic adaptation and can be found on the soundtrack for Across the Universe. [...]
