Deluxe Edition of Taster's Choice folks! I'll probably split posts with this many songs into parts in the future, but since this has been a relatively light posting week I thought what the hell, throw 10+ of them up. There might still be a Pt. 2 to this though b/c these cats used a looot of samples I didn't include below. In completely unrelated news, I just got off the phone with Consequence so look for that interview to impact yo' atmosphere with rapidity. Peace! Jean Carne - " Don't Let It Go To Your Head [...]

funkadelic how do yeaw view you 1976 (française version) & (englikhtonian version) J'crois c'était fin 80 ou début 81. Une soirée entre amis. Le type était venu avec Sylvie - c'était son petit ami si m'souviens bien - et, dans le paquet commun de disques, il avait mis ça : I think it was 1980 in the end or beginning of 81. A party. Randy Hobbs -- Slowly But Surely Roosevelt Sykes -- Yes Lawd Funkadelic -- Maggot Brain [alt mix] He was alone in the lobby of his hotel in Isla Mujeres, watching Hitchcock's La Ventana Indiscreta and misreading Jeffries' misgivings for disregard, zoning out looking through Lisa's face to the blue and red and green rectangles. Jorge banged on the glass by the door, smiling sleepily, holding his left crutch, his right crutch leaned against his side. [...]
With my 2-week vacation to the east coast a mere 12 hours away, I'm beginning to realize the logistics of dragging my external hard drive out with me are a little bit on the impossible side. Because of that, I have decided to turn this whole Instru'Mental thing into an ongoing series. Besides, how could I devote a mere handful of posts to my favorite instrumental tracks? I'm almost positive I'll still be able to throw up a post or two while I'm away, so keep checking back. If you haven't already learned it, if you check [...]

I'm probably the least qualified person in the world to talk about the funk (or Da Phonque). But I've recently rediscovered a great old Funkadelic 's amazing fourth album, America Eats Its Young . Now, I came to funk music pretty late in my musical eduction (adolescent suspicion of music that sounds like the band are having fun, perhaps?), but listening to it the other night I was again struck by their use of SPACE - the funk and rhythmic hiccups are in the gaps where no-one is playing. Plus I love the fact that [...]
Funkadelic - A Joyful Process Everybody knows George Clinton's masters of psychdelic funk, Funkadelic; this is my personal favourite of theirs. It features on the America Eats Its Young album, a perhaps surprisingly serious one in the sense that many of the tunes feature comments on social injustice that will seem alien to those familiar with the later, party like there's no tomorrow P-Funk themes. I've seen it criticised for its sprawling and inconsistent nature - a charge often levelled at double albums - but it was also the first release [...]

As we move from Lazy Sunday into Memorial Monday... It's not unusual that the sands of time have continued to shift... and have buried a few musicians with them... Amongst those we've lost this weekend include: jazz musicians Michael Brecker & Alice Coltrane and as for death tolls of industry icons, as of recent Warner/Atlantic's Ahmet Ertegun passed, and this week the heads of EMI & V2 labels ( plus V2's entire staff...yikes)... First: Michael Brecker, an 11 Grammy winning tenor [...]
Beginning as James Brown's bass player, Bootsy soon crashed the Parliament-Funkadelic mothership into the Chocolate City with George Clinton, and later leveled it with his Space Bass as Bootzilla. Now Boot-A-Claus is comin' to town with Christmas Is 4 Ever, a festive mix of funk-fried classics and original Christmas songs. Maurice Spencer Teilmann interviews His Funkiness. Mojo Magazine's November issue has a great freebie cover mount CD. Called Experienced, it is 15 tracks inspired by The Jimi Hendrix Experience. It's hard to believe it but their stellar debut Are You Experienced? will be FORTY next year. Yes, it was released in 1967, and it's influence can still be found today. This collection has covers, both contemporary and classic, as well as tracks by Hendrix

MP3s: far too many (28) of the suckers in this post. When I stumbled across this photo of the dashing DJ Rodney Bingenheimer with his adoring fans, I decided to assemble a group of groupie-related MP3s to accompany it. Like many blog posts that start off simple, this one has the potential to spiral out of control (see 101 Stairways to Heaven ), so I hereby nip this thing in the bud and serve up all your groupie-based MP3 needs. Let's start off with the namesake tune on Rodney's T-shirt, Funkadelic's fantastic No Head, No [...]

* Funkadelic : Maggot Brain (16.5 mb) | Can You Get To That (4.0 mb) | Super Stupid (6.0 m) From Maggot Brain : Westbound Records : CDSEWM202 I was just browsing the archives of this here blog when I realized that I hadn't posted anything by this most magnificent of groups, Funkadelic . That shocked me to my very core, as this band is one of those that I truly hold dear in [...]

The large black man with the mile wide smile introduced the band as Trapper John and The MD's, but everyone at the sold out Electric Factory show last night in Philly knew the 13 piece group dressed up as doctors and nurses were Gnarls Barkley. Make one thing clear folks: this year's incredible debut success of Gnarls loses nothing onstage - in fact, their stage show outdoes the album in large part to Cee-Lo's fantastic stage presence and his instant ability to connect with the audience in a genuine and fun way.
