As day one (Wed) of SXSW comes to an end it's really just the start of music madness here, attempting to see many of the 2 and 1/2 million bands playing. As we checked off our dance cards all in all, it was a great start to this year festivities. The night started early with an 8PM show by Future Clouds and Radar in which leadman/songwriter/guitarist Robert Harrison channeled John Lennon and Robyn Hitchcock and exploded in to some highly flammable cosmic space rock jams. Nice. [...]
Download: Future Clouds and Radar -- "Drugstore Bust" Download: Future Clouds and Radar -- "Dr. No" Formerly working under the guise of Cotton Mather, Austin based musician Robert Harrison has once again sprung into form with his new project, Future Clouds and Radar . Of course, Future Clouds and Radar would want to take you future back into the past than 2001, the last time that Cotton Mather put out a full-length record. Indeed 1,000,000 B.C. is where this band finds its origins, according to [...]

To write about Future Clouds & Radar without mentioning Robert Pollard is a futile task, and not just because the band, fronted by former Cotton Mather frontman Robert Harrison, released a debut that's 90 minutes of pop songs-its because they released 90 minutes of exuberant pop songs; 90 minutes of music influenced by the same bands; and 90 minutes of music buoyed by the same enthusiasm and inflection that propelled the early 90s output of the Fading Captain to cult status and did the same with Harrison's first [...]

It's always exciting when South by Southwest announces its schedule and posts songs by many of the bands that will be appearing at the festival. I just spent several--okay, six--pleasant hours making my way through the entire list from Aa to zZz (I skipped +/- because they didn't provide a sample mp3). I admit I didn't listen to every single song. Certain categories didn't really interest me, not yet at least. But I did give ear to everything labelled rock and pop that I didn't [...]

Future Clouds and Radar es el nuevo proyecto de Robert Harrison, el ex líder de Cotton Mather , espléndido grupo tejano de power-pop de los años 90. Future Clouds & Radar - Drugstore Bust [mp3] Just because Future Clouds & Radar [ website / myspace ] are a new band that doesn't stop them from putting out a double-disc debut. That takes some balls. Or a severe lack of editing skills. I listened to the single(?) "Drugstore Bust" and while it may tread a bit close to it's influences [Elvis Costello anyone?] I kept returning to it. In fact, it's been on repeat repeatedly this week. Seven times seventy or something like that. As a [...]
