The time has come! Summer is upon us, and for me, as a blogger, it can only mean one thing: Time for the annual summer mix! However, this year's will be quite different from the previous ones, hence its appearance here instead of the main blog. This time around, I made it with a clear theme in mind: To create a soundtrack for a fantastic summer getaway fantasy. Exotic locales, improbably blue skies, palm trees & white sands... steel drums. You name it all. Summer Getaway is a concoction of [...]

Here is an artist that has made the transition from harsh drum and bass to wonderful pastoral downtempo. Future Loop Foundation is Sheffield-lad Mark Barrott. He traces his influences back to a 1981 Kraftwerk gig. Over the next decade Mark honed his craft, moving from the early techno sounds of Juan Atkins and Derrick May to ambient and ultimately onto the burgeoning sound of drum and bass which was seeping up from London, lead by the creative force of LTJ Bukem. In fact, Mark used the energy and inspiration he heard [...]

This release does include the radio edit and Padded Cell remix that were both previously released as part of the superb 'Fading Room' , released last year. There are however two brand spanking new remixes that make this worth the punt. The Trenchman Remix delves into full on hardcore drum and bass after a mediocre breaks intro. It's really dirty and with a lovely deep throbbing bassline will work well out there in clubland, probably. Aaron Jerome keep an ambient Digitonal-esque vibe going on with his remix. If you missed the LP last year then [...]
photo by Julius Metoyer It's been a long time coming... 1. Eliot Lipp - "Best Friends" (mp3) Brooklyn-by-way-of-Tacoma electronic musician Eliot Lipp has been on my radar ever since Scott Herron, or rather Prefuse 73, picked up his tracks. And it's plain to see why Herron found Lipp's music intriguing. The production is pristine—volatile little blips and wavering synth lines are juxtaposed with oppressively constant beeps and feverish beats. 2. Empire of the Sun - "Walking On A Dream" (mp3) This is [...]

i used to get really annoyed with my family when they started going on, as old people do, about how they could remember certain sites 'when it was all just fields'. inevitably, said site would now be inhabited by something i wanted to spend money in and this would be their objection to the expense of modern life. of course now i'm (just) over 30, i can now relate to the sinking feeling you get when you see something new has been built [...]
The Go! Team provided a nice little remix for Future Loop Foundation, on the recent Six Weeks Holiday EP. Future Loop Foundation - This Is Where We Live (Go! Team Remix) As a conscientious citizen of the world, I would...
Future Loop Foundation is back with a new record called Memories From A Fading Room. It's largely an atmospheric, ambient affair, although a few tracks pop out of the woodwork, but the overall effect is nicely emotional and reminiscent of...
...me! 33 years old today (in Irish time). Life is nothing but big old adventure really; full of music, wonder and laughter and I've got my parents, family and friends to thank for helping me live 33 years with all of that in abundance. So today as I celebrate my 33 years here I will be thinking back on the great living, loving, laughing and listening that I've shared and look forward to many more years of the same. Kinda weird that I found this tune by Future Loop Foundation [...]

There is a new 12" from DC Recordings signing White Light Circus, called 'Interrupted Time' that seems to have slipped out under the radar, complete with sexual-as-ever La Boca artwork. It must be...
