Without a doubt, the Hangout Music Fest was the suprise success of 2011. For only it's second year in existence, concertgoers from all over the country swarmed the Alabama coast town of Gulf Shores - essentially a first for the entire gulf coast region. In retrospect, though, the refreshing swell of alternative vacationers couldn't have been much of a surprise: even if they hadn't been treated to as peerless a lineup as entire festival circuit that year offered (which they certainly were), no one should be able to resist the thrill of experiencing any live concert set to a backdrop [...]
The lineup for this year's Hangout Music Fest is starting to be released via the official Facebook page. So far on the lineup announcement (along with the Jack White news coming late last week) we can see that String Cheese Incident has been booked for two sets one of the nights (which leaked earlier tonight [...]
In case you missed it, the lineup for this year's Wakarusa Music Festival was finalized late last week. Topping the bill is a solid eclectic mix with Pretty Lights, The Avett Brothers and Primus all set to headline the festival, with LMB favorites Umphrey's Mcgee, Girl Talk, Ghostland Observatory, Big Gigantic, EOTO, Orgone, Blitzen Trapper [...]

In the next few days, when I gather up too many $100 dollar bills, I will spend them all on a fucking ticket. A ticket, my friends, to a motherfucking festival. Pardon the language but I tell you what, my ass is jazzed. After a 2011 spent purchasing tickets (Cotton Jones, The Sheepdogs, Iron & Wine, and GAYNGS) and then realizing as dates approached that holy shit dude, I'm a single mom with a job, there's NO WAY I'm making that gig, I had to bail. All that money down the drain, all those good times enjoyed by [...]

It's hard to imagine that just a few short months ago we were enjoying sunny summer days. 2011 was my best year yet, having achieved a few milestones: four and a half years running FensePost, riding my bike from Seattle to Portland and logging over 1,000 total on those two wheels between January and December, enjoying life with the love of my life (Andi), and a few defining mindset changes that put the two of us on a path to minimalism and frugality. All of this has led to happiness. That the [...]
Wakarusa has come out of the gate nice and early with their initial 2012 lineup, including Pretty Lights, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, G. Love & Special Sauce, and an acoustic trio featuring Bob Weir, Chris Robinson, and Jackie Greene.

If you are unfamiliar with Futurebirds or on the fence about their music, it's a requirement to see them live. There are few emerging bands with their energy and zeal on stage. The band is wrapping up a crazy year that included tour dates with Drive-By Truckers, Widespread Panic, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Gary Clark, Jr., and J. Roddy Walston & The Business. They'll be heading back to the studio soon to follow up their incredible 2010 debut, Hampton's Lullaby . For those in Chicago, we have a free pair of tickets [...]
Our buddy Brent Cebul caught the Futurebirds last Thursday night in Charlottesville and took some amazing photos from the show. Check out his photo gallery after the jump. The Athens outfit has released [...]

Those of us who pay even the smallest bit of attention to the goings on of the music business know that the world is changing. Digital music continues to turn the game on its head leaving record labels and album stores less important by the day. Perhaps we are on the verge of some grand solution, but right now things remain in flux. By offering free streaming to the masses, websites like Spotify, Rhapsody and Pandora allow fans access to their favorite tunes, while the Compact Disc watches in through the window with its nose pressed up against the glass. Oh what [...]
And just like that, the live music scene in NYC picks up again, with a lot of great shows kicking off this week.

Mp3: Dead Condederate. Run From The Gun Mp3: Futurebirds. Battle For Rome
