A great and fun band making exciting, well produced tunes is Futuristic Retro Champions. Alternating singers backed by up-beat, electro dance rhythms. I would suggest checking out "Speak to Me" or "You Make my Heart". You can follow them on twitter at @frcmusic or check out their myspace .

There are certain moments that define your life, it's the little things that tend to stick with you. One such moment for me was the last Define Pop festival at the Flying Duck, yes I got drunk, saw lots of great bands and danced like a total fanny (there is video evidence of this, but I'll be fucked if I am going to actively share it with you). More importantly for me it was a day were I got to meet and make friends with a lot of great people. If I hadn't been there, then I am pretty sure [...]

Would you care to introduce yourself? hello I am Carla and I am the keyboard player in Futuristic Retro Champions. How would you describe the music you make? The music we make is solid pop. How did you start out making music? By accident. Me and Sita wrote a song to soundtrack a film that we made together. Then we just kept going [...]

Scottish electro pop is going great guns at the moment. Just a few days ago we introduced the rather fabulous Mopp , now here's another exciting gang of synth kids from the northern quarters. Whilst Mopp is utterly modern and luscious, this band have a very old school indie sensibility about them. Consisting of three girls and one boy, Glasgow's Futuristic Retro Champions spell out what they do with their name. Modern pop with an old fashioned twist, their bubbly songs are mighty fine. Their song Jenna from their free LaChunky EP [...]
Futuristic Retro Champions are a Glasgow based Indie-Electro four piece who are gearing up for the release of their début double A-side, 'May The Forth'/'Settle Down'. And, frankly, it's pretty rad. These three girls and one guy's particular brand of ElectroPop, with it's heavy Indie-electro pounding counterpointed with sparkling 80's sounding lead lines, is catchy as hell and toped of with vocals with an adorable Scottish twang. The production is pretty huge too, allowing these cute little ElectroPop tracks to evolve into epic, emotive power tracks. Check 'em out: [...]

Son(s) They come from Aberdeenshire, they now reside in Edinburgh, they sound cracking. That's about all you need to know for now, don't believe me, then go and check out their Bandcamp where you will find a couple of free downloads. Mates of State The husband-and-wife indie pop duo have posted a free download of their cover of Daniel Johnston's "True Love Will Find You in the End", which features on their forthcoming album 'Covers' album. Also, in case you missed it last time round, their cover of Girls [...]

Hmm, the Edinburgh live music beast still has to entirely crawl out of hibernation it seems, with still very little action to be found in and around the city this week. There are, however, a couple of things going on and the welcome return of Trampoline should rescue us from our post-Christmas ennui. Their lineup is rather cheerful this month, so cheerful in fact that it might even put a smile on the promoter Euan's grumpy old puss. Sadly though, I made something of a half-arsed new year's resolution to stop ignoring high profile bands and [...]

Well, erm, Thursday should be fun. This weekend was somewhat written off, after an apocalyptic drinking session on Saturday took its terrible revenge on Sunday, rendering most of the day a ruin apart from shitty movies and too much Chinese takeaway. To everyone who came round to the house on Saturday, I apologise. It was a fucking good party, though. Our next door neighbour seems to have the habit of opening a window and playing terrible music as soon as we go out in the back garden, which is both tedious and foolish. Foolish because our stereo can [...]

It's a quiet, but hardly barren week in Edinburgh this week, although I think I may skip a fair bit of it and concentrate on getting the Pictish Trail Session up and posted. What a shitty fucking weekend it's been, too. I got some really bizarre message from an old school friend of mine asking me if I was blanking him on Friday, which I haven't been. We haven't exchanged messages for years, but that's been true in both directions. Then on Sunday, before I'd responded, he sent another saying 'Okay, I'll delete you from my Facebook wotsit, have a [...]
