Galapaghost's first album Runnin' arrived in early January of this year, but that won't stop Casey Chandler from moving quickly onto his second album. After pairing up with a small Italian label, Galapaghost's second release ditched his bedroom recording with a single SM57 microphone and professionally recorded his new material. The result? Well, that is the big question. While a professional studio will certainly alter the distinct sound heard on tracks such as "Rise & Fall" or "Never Heard Nothin'", there will be no sure answers until Chandler is able to get the funding needed [...]

In one year from today I will be getting married to a very nice woman. The party will be in the mountains at a heli-skiing lodge (pictured above). Here are a few songs that are leading the way out of the gates for our official wedding theme song. I probably won't get my way. 1. John Prine & Iris Dement - In Spite of Ourselves [...]
Galapaghost is the creation of singer/song-writer Casey Chandler, a 2009 college graduate hailing from Woodstock, NY. I got a hold of "Never Heard Nothin'" this morning, and at first I thought it was gonna be some kind of cover of that Birdman track "Never Had Nothin" from like 10 years ago - EB and I used to bump that back in the day. Instead, it's three minutes of soothing acoustic sounds that absolutely knock you out. A great way to slowly start a Tuesday. Download: Galapaghost - Never Heard Nothin' [via]

Happy Easter. Here's some music to keep you company. The week of inbox purging went alright but I still have 300 e-mails in the inbox that I'd like to cut down to 0. So here is the first batch for your picking and choosing pleasure. I tried to keep my favorites near the top. Enjoy. Ages & Ages - So So Freely First track off the Portland band's [...]

This EP was sent to me about two weeks ago and I must have listened to it about a dozen times already. Considering I try and listen to a different album on the way to/from work every day, that's pretty impressive. Galapaghost is the project of Casey Chandler and this is his third EP under this name. There are 7 songs on his EP and they are all good! It starts with 'The Demise Of Me', a ukulele driven song and a folky, four-on-the-floor double bass plodding on in the background. His harmonies are genuinely delightful; quaint and modest, they [...]
Simply astounding country and folk influenced indie. Tweet Facebook
Runnin' Galapaghost is the conception of singer/songwriter/one man artist Casey Chandler. Chandler under the moniker 'Galapaghost' wrote, recorded and mixed his most recent released EP, Runnin' in the fall of 2010. He has recently just finished a European/North American tour with John Grant in 2010, which coincided with this release. His music is indie folk with a focus on the ukelele. I hear a Neil Young influence in his songwriting, and his title track 'Runnin' is really good. Solo plucking starts the song out as a quiet introspective and charming folk track that leads into a heart [...]
Mondays are for getting back to nature. Galapaghost – Never Heard Nothin’ Matt Longo – Aren’t You Glad? (via bandcamp) The Soft Collapse – Black on Black on Black on Black (via bandcamp) Old Monk – Butter and Toast Paulie Rhyme and Vic Freeze – Everything but the Burden

Casey Chandler aka Galapaghost makes simply put, impacting music. “Rise & Fall” one of the songs from his third EP, is quite the attention getters It is both romantic, and heartbreaking indie folk at it’s finest. Chandler just has a pretty special quality in his vocals and in the environment to which all these songs on the record are evoking to a point where you should be saying to yourself it is absolutely ridiculous how he is still unsigned. Hailing from Woodstock, NY, but now calling Austin, TX home, hopefully being in a musical haven which Austin is, will help [...]

Today’s features: Get your indie folk on with Galapaghost, Harlan Pepper, and Yo Soybean; we're all goofy, because the Elephant 6 Collective is going out on tour; Rolling Stone releases their top 30 albums of 2010 (phhhfttt!!!); download bootleg Bowie at his glam height; and watch LENNONYC available through PBS. While I eat a lunch my mom packed, p lease consider... I've received quite a few e-mails from Indie Folk types in the past week, which was nice to see. Three of these artists stood out [...]

Casey Chandler is Galapaghost , the one-man folk band. He emailed me with his whole ep up for download. I don't usually dig folk, but it's Sunday, we could do with something to soothe this end-of-the-weekend pain. Plus it's so perfect to curl up in a blanket and watch the snow destroy the city, listening to songs like Runnin' and A Familiar Place . Its the kind of songs you would hear in films like Juno or Hallam Foe or those twee Orange Mobile ads. Occassionally he plays the Ukulele [...]
GALAPAGHOSTFirst of all, awesome band name! I mean Galapagos turned into to Galapaghost?! That's clever. At first when I read it I automatically assumed electronic band but I when I clicked to listen I was pleasantly surprised to hear it was a folky individual with a beautifully haunting style. Give Galapaghost an ear, he's got a pretty minimalistic sound, but it makes for some unique

galapaghost (casey chandler) is the kind of artist who's music i really enjoy sharing. he does it all himself...from playing every instrument you'll hear to mixing and producing. he's currently living in austin, and in the very near future he'll be touring with john grant (coincidentally, i've been wanting to do a little write-up on john's music as well...he recently did a great take away show over at la blogotheque that you should check out). to all my chicago people...they'll be rolling through schubas on 12/4. if you're one of my show buddies, hit me up if you'd [...]

Seems like it's been forever since we ran an Austin Artist to Watch post right? Maybe. Our most recent addition to ATH faves will now have to includes Austin's very own Galapaghost . The band is basically a one man show of recent Woodstock, NY transplant Casey Chandler. Since graduating from SUNY Purchase in NY only a short year and a half or so ago, Chandler has already written, produced and recorded 3 EPs on his own. I've had a chance to check out all three extended players and have to say that his most recent work [...]

The stripped back nature of the folk/folk-rock genre can so easily result in music that's a little on the dull side, perfunctory even. These are not words I'd use to describe the folksy sound of Casey Chandler, aka Galapaghost , whose latest E.P. entitled Runnin' , is simply a joy to listen to. Featuring seven tracks, the E.P. appears to effortlessly meld the rustic sounds of Neil Young and Don McLean with the more layered production of Beirut and Brian Wilson . Delicate falsetto vocals and simple melody seamlessly give way [...]

To us naive Brits (well me at least) Austin Texas is a magical land of tumbleweed, cowboy boots, and of course the not so magical country music. My rodeo view of Austin is gradually being skewered though, especially knowing one of my favourite bands, the folksters Shearwater , come from there. Along the same folky vain is fellow Austin dweller Galapaghost - the work of singer songwriting producer Casey Chandler . With crunchy flanged guitars and ukulele strums there are touches of fellow solo artist Liam Finn [...]

Galapaghost - Human Unkind The Galápagos Islands, littered with Endemics, lying to keep themselves alive. Corinne, a Cormorant, is adamant. "We're not devolved. We're just content. We don't need to travel the world, breed with other species, grow strange limbs, spotted coats, and speak in strange tongues. I don't even like traveling, anyway. I like it here. The sun sets and rises in the same skies and the seas are blue." By her side, a leather-skinned tortoise celebrating another fistful of decades makes the second of its bi-annual migration to the mossy rocks across the inlet. [...]
This is a song I wrote a little while ago about being with somebody that cares about you more than you care about them. You know you have to let them go, but you just keep running away from the problem and distancing yourself from...
Galapaghost is the conception of singer/songwriter/one man arsenal Casey Chandler. He is a recent graduate of SUNY Purchase, which he attended from 2005-2009 and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Music production. He hails from the small hippie town of Woodstock, NY where he took his first baby steps towards becoming the musician he has blossomed into today. With no training on any...
