Gandalf Murphy & the Slambovian Circus of Dreams: Glide [ purchase ] Gandalf Murphy & the Slambovian Circus of Dreams: Living With God (live, WXPN) [unpurchaseable] At least four of our regular contributors have heard Gandalf Murphy & the Slambovian Circus of Dreams , the upstate NY-based Pink Floyd-meets-The Allman Brothers hillbilly psychedelic folk rock band which takes over the dance and main stages at our fave folk festival each summer for successive evenings of total [...]

There was one thing that didn't change under the new Bluesfest management at this year's Ottawa Folk Festival . It was the afternoon workshop at the festival. These workshops is not just about the musicians collaborating with other musicians. It was a great way for the Ottawa community to participate. Don't forget these workshops are fun and more of a intimate setting with the musicians. The workshops that I saw/attended were: Storytelling & Mythology [...]

Up until this week, you probably hadn't heard of Monson, Massachusetts , our little haven in the woods, a tiny rural town (population 8,000) in the no-man's land between Springfield and Worcester, Hartford and Northampton. But Wednesday evening a tornado split our town in two, flattening homes, cars, businesses, and entire acres of trees, splashing our once-beautiful haven across the front page of every major newspaper from here to the UK and beyond. No one got hurt, but there's a swath of destruction like a war zone from way above downtown through the dead center of everything [...]

The Grey Fox contest includes over $250 worth of prizes alone, and there's FOUR chances to win, so don't forget to enter before contests close on Monday at midnight! But wait! Today, Cover Lay Down CONTEST WEEK comes to a head with an amazing chance to win [...]

If you don't know Gandalf Murphy & The Slambovian Circus of Dreams then it's about you did. The six piece band formed in Sleepy Hollow, New York (that's upstate North New York, folks) in the late 90's and cite Hank Williams, Dylan, Bowie, Incredible String Band and early Pink Floyd as influences. While The Circus play a heavy cosmic brew of roots-rock that often finds them sitting in Jamband company they don't fit in to any one neat genre, which makes them even more appealing. They six piece have a new collection [...]
Gee, but it's great to be back home. And bearing gifts, including an exclusive live Beatles tribute concert, recorded this past Friday in a sunny field in Hillsdale, NY, which you'll find just down below. But first, the weather report: Regular readers may remember that I'd hoped to have a Utah Phillips tribute set to share today. Unfortunately, a freak hurricane-force thunder-and-hailstorm and torrential downpour mid-afternoon on Sunday brought several major event-sized tents down, flooding roads and washing away tentsites, soaking sound equipment, and generally [...]
