I just wanna know how the conversation went down. There you had it; one fine bluegrass band, guitar, fiddle, resonator guitar, banjo and bass on hand, just hanging out in the studio one day with a jug of moonshine and some hayseed, when the guitarist looked over to the banjo player and said, "You know what we're missing here?" "No, what?" the banjo player must've replied, "Harmonica? Washboard?" "No," the guitarist stated, slinging his six-string over his shoulder. "What this bluegrass jam really needs to take off is a hot-ass rapper [...]
Innovation at it's finest: The Mediocrity of Music This is a random musical gift that I came across on 'the interwebs' this weekend. GANGSTAGRASS; A mash-up album consisting of bass thumping bluegrass under half yodeling, half rapping a capellas. Relatively unknown [at least to me] mash-up artist Renka has cooked up a genre explosion with Gangstagrass. The idea is more revolutionary than the tracks are good, but it still a great gift that you can admire for it's desired effects. The FREE MIXTAPE [...]

If I say "Gangstagrass" , what is the first thing that comes to your mind? If you break it down you might probably think: "Gansta" = rap, hip-hop "Grass" = plants? Weed? Marijuana? … Wait, could it be… Blue Grass ? If your thinking process was similar to mine that would have been the order to come up with the right answer. The Album Gangstagrass is an incredible mash-up of hip/hop and the classic banjo and mandolin blue grass genre. Although it seems like a collaborative project, as there [...]
Random stuff keeping me occupied: 01. Immuzikation - Sweet Young Angel (Feist vs burial vs Jens Lekman) [ Myspace -- warning, this is the ugliest myspace ever] 02. Gangstagrass - On the Run [ Site ] 03. The Polyamorous Affair - Merry Go Round [ Myspace ] 04. Camera Obscura - Your Sister's Social Agony [...]

I am a sucker for a mashup, so when I saw this entry over on BoingBoing today I had to check into it. I'm not a big fan of Rench as a band. I think it's too gimmicky and aside from that I just don't think they are very good but they managed to do a very interesting job with this mashup of Underground hip-hop vocals with Rench beats and tons of uncleared samples from early bluegrass, folk ballads, and blues as well as some modern bluegrass as well. They did a really awesome [...]

Nope, I didn't mess up on those genres up there. Rench is a Brooklyn-based producer who mixes old bluegrass and country samples with a standup band that includes slide guitar and fiddle, and he pulls it all together with hip hop beats and splits vocals between country guys and gals and underground emcees from around the way. If your head's about to explode, join the club. The mere thought of it in abstract made me think of those fun but mostly throwaway "crossovers" like Hayseed Dixie and The Gourds' "Gin & Juice." But hey, if Snoop Dogg's gonna show up [...]

Gangstagrass - Pain Gangstagrass - Pistol Packin Brooklyn-based musician, Rench , flirts with magic. I purchased his first album from Aime St. more than a year ago. After recently hearing one of those tracks on the TV, I checked up on his website. And so I found Gangstagrass. Gangstagrass has been my bubblegum for the last month. On first taste, the disc gave me a giddy rush of wonder. Hip-hop rhymes and flow immersed with [...]
