We have been fans of Gaoler's Daughter from the very first time we heard their demo of Nine Pieces of Silk back at the start of 2010. Since then they've delivered a series of excellent EPs and singles in the shape of The Only Way To Travel, Alchemy, Rhyme & Treason and St. Peter . They have been back in touch to tell us about a new single, How Do You Know . Keeping to their DIY tradition they are releasing the track themselves via CD Baby, bandcamp and Vibedeck on [...]
Breaking from SOIWT's normal musicians focus, here's a new-music initiative well worth knowing about: Future Sound Share is a London-based project dedicated to supporting new and emerging artists. It plays their music to lucky online visitors; bands and artists keen to appear can send in their demos or singles (details here ) for consideration. Currently it's just on Facebook , but a devoted website will soon follow. Says founder David J. Houston: "I started Future Sound Share because of a passion for new music that started [...]

We've long been admirers of Gaoler's Daughter and they have returned with a cracking new single, St Peter, which is released on the 2nd October. This time the band have upped the tempo and delivered a song that is more urgent and direct, charging ahead on a clatter of percussion and guitars before settling into a groove that recalls the halycon days of prime Echo & The Bunnymen . The band seem to go from strength to strength with each release and this is certainly their best yet. Visit their Bandcamp page here for [...]

According to yesterday's Evening Standard, guitar bands are very uncool right now. I'm not sure that's true; if it is, though, it means they'll be the height of cool in two years' time. But I hope that's not true of emerging London act Gaoler's Daughter : their terrific songs - some broad and brooding (new single St. Peter), some more jaunty (last year's Angry Eyes) - despite adultation right now. Gaoler's Daughter - St. Peter [There is a video that cannot be displayed in this feed. Visit the blog entry to see the video.] [...]
Today saw the release of our final session with Gaoler's Daughter, a london-based four piece who you can find out more about via their facebook page HERE . The filming of these sessions proved to be one of our more stressful experiences... Once we met the guys things flowed very quickly and smoothly, it was just the getting there that proved challenging. The band were due to play at Proud that evening and we were meeting them before hand and hence had allowed plenty of time for travel, filming etc. Or at least we though we had, [...]

Where's Tim Westwood's Klaxon when you need it?! Yes that's right, Music Liberation has another exclusive for you. This time we have 10 tickets available to see Gaoler's Daughter (we reviewed their EP ' Rhyme and Treason' back in January ) at Bush Hall in London on June 3rd. Not only can you get a ticket to the gig but also waiting for you at the door will be a copy of the band's EP. Nice huh?! [...]

Gaoler's Daughter have featured a couple of times on MM - they have the ability to combine an ear for a great melody with an engaging blend of indie and folk that sets them apart from the majority of new bands in this rather overcrowded arena. Their Rhyme & Treason EP gets a release today and here is the radio edit of Angry Eyes that has caught the attention of both Zane Low on Radio 1 and Tom Robinson on Radio 6 - it is easy to hear why. You can [...]

Gaoler's Daughter to release 'Rhyme & Treason' EP Gaoler's Daughter are a band that defy categorisation. The London music scene's best kept secret Gaoler's Daughter have announced details of a brand new EP, 'Rhyme & Treason' from which the brilliant "Angry Eyes" is the lead track. Gaoler's Daughter sound like all your favourite indie bands combined. Is this a good thing? Gaoler's Daughter – a London based quartet – have incorporated a plentitude of differing indie styles into their sound. Each song on ' Rhyme & Treason ' has a different character; making it rather difficult to conclusively decide which indie subgenre the band belongs in. More often than not, bands that vary styles or genres from song to song claim to be ' pushing boundaries' wherein actuality they lack coherence, confidence and direction. This is [...]

Here at MM we share, chat, argue, bury and praise music on a pretty regular basis…like daily. So throughout the year, the Mackerel crew (Mrs Mackerel, Barry-Sean, Christy-Popper, Dr Roddy, Polly Pocket, Starbar, MM and others) keep their own ever-changing top tens ready for publication at the climax of the festive season. Now is the time to reveal all... Our third contribution this year comes from the mighty Dr Roddy, house-mate, chef, Leeds fan, and occasional soiler of his own trousers. 10. GAOLER'S DAUGHTERIt seems that the British have a thing for making music, or maybe it's just me, I don't know. Gaoler's Daughter hails from the U.K. and has brought us our first Wednesday Play. "Angry Eyes" comes from their latest E.P. Rhyme & Treason with a different but intriguing sound and a really upbeat chorus which I really enjoy. Its hard to describe so you should probably just have a
My, they're a good looking bunch aren't they! We've posted about Gaoler's Daughter a couple of times on Mad Mackerel and they've definitely been one of those bands we've marked out as worth keeping an eye on. An unusual mix of styles and sounds and a great ear for melody means they demand the listener's attention and then retain the capacity to consistently surprise them. Their new self-released EP is called Rhyme & Treason and is due for release on the 15th November. It contains four tracks and the first thing we [...]

I've gathered a bit more time to regularly post for the next three weeks - so I'm going to make the most of it by posting new stuff to enjoy on the site :) First on the agenda is Fresh from the Post. I know it's taken a bit of a backseat the last couple of months, but I'm happy to say that I'm unloading some of the good stuff that's been sitting in my Inbox for the past couple of weeks. Here's a taste of a couple of fresh new tracks from my stash of ear candy, all for [...]

Estos londinenses llegaron a mí junto con el magnífico EP The Only Way To Travel . MP3: Gaoler's Daughter - Sun Coming Up Download audio file (Gaolers Daughter - Sun Coming Up.mp3)

A little while ago we posted about Gaoler's Daughter and gave you their excellent track Nine Pieces Of Silver . We then got hold of their equally excellent The Only Way To Travel EP , which boasted the (you guessed it) excellent song Jumbo Jet . Now they are preparing to release a new EP titled Alchemy which is out on the 6th June. We've had an advance copy for a few days now and it is, no other word to describe it, excellent. Their sound is summed up [...]

"We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold. I remember saying something like "I feel a bit lightheaded; maybe you should drive...." And suddenly there was a terrible roar all around us and the sky was full of what looked like huge bats, all swooping and screeching and diving around the car, which was going about a hundred miles an hour with the top down to Las Vegas. And a voice was screaming "Holy Jesus! What are these goddamn animals?" - Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas [...]
