Ohio's lo-fi rock project Gap Dream is the nom de plume of Gabriel Fulvimar. The debut self-titled LP came out last year on Burger Records. Just got around to this great Gap Dream album that came out last year, and heard tell September 10, 2013 will see the release of Shine Your Light , the followup. But for now, take a listen to these two great tracks from last year's Gap Dream . "58th Street Fingers" is the more uptempo of the two, giving a nice intro to the barrage of [...]

Depending on whom you talk to, you'll probably hear that guitars are totally over, which is an understandable statement. Electronic music's dominated the conversation for the past few years, but it doesn't mean that there ... read more

I picked up a new toy a few hours before my show. My bike had been in the shop for a few days with a broken spoke and to get a new chain and cassette (the latter of which was a special order item), and I decided to try out a 2012 model Trek. Ended up using my old bike as a trade in and coming home with the new ride pictured above. With this kind of reckless spending, I needed a garage/psychedelic rock kind of night. Here's my playlist for [...]

Coachella’s line-up this year hearkens back to the past—not the old past, but my past, to the bands that were popular when I was in high school. To keep in the spirit of things, I’ve reviewed all of this weekend’s bands as I might have done in Freshman English at Booker T. Washington High School in Tulsa. Today’s format? All limericks! Oh, and I started not at Coachella proper, but at the Ace Hotel, where we lounged around and watched bands poolside with pretty damned good bloody marys in our hands. [...]

Wednesday was the Echo & Echoplex & Origami Vinyl “throwdown” at Cheer Up Charlie’s, and this embedded journalist perhaps became too embedded, as I ended up DJing the indoor stage and having my movements be tethered to the power strip next to a PA mixer for the better part of an afternoon. Luckily the event was pretty loose and disorganized, so much so that I arrived to the strains of a pretty amazing and possibly unlisted all-black soul group with male back-up singers. No later band really matched that energy. The crowd-pumping band leader wasn’t singing the most [...]

Photos and words by Leslie Kalohi The excited chattering amongst the largely female audience might lead one to believe they were waiting for the latest teen heartthrobs to take the stage. Despite singer Mario Cuomo being able to elicit high-pitched squeals and eager, grabby hands, he and the rest of The Orwells proved to have little else in common with the boy-band analogy. The fast, party-punk sounds of the teenaged Chicago-based group turned the sold out Echo into a whirling dervish of wild energy. Fans frequently jumped on stage, more often than not to [...]

It was love at first listen when we heard Cleveland one-man (Gabriel Fulvimar) band Gap Dream's cover of this 1966 Byrdsian B-side by Bristol, CT five-man band The Squires. We sent you to Rollo & Grady to check it out and have been hugely enjoying it ever since. You can hear/buy the self-titled LP on which it plays at Bandcamp. (Warning: It's the most visually revolting Bandcamp page we've

Here's the list of my favorite albums outside of Seattle for 2012. You may think it's late, but you should know I got it done before the Russian New Year. Kevin Shields, you still have a few more days. 1. Exlovers - exlovers ( Young And Lost Club ) Exlovers had my favorite single of 2011 and now my favorite record of 2012. Their debut album is a dreampop masterpiece that was a long time coming from this London band. [...]

Finally, I present to you my top 10 records of 2012. Once again, we begin with a pair of honorary mentions - the recent single that's leading into my most anticipated album of 2013, and an album I know would have made the top 50 had I checked it out in advance of compiling and publishing the first half of this list. * * * * * Honorary Mention: Common Sentiments (73 Single) by Typhoon With A New Kind of House , Typhoon [...]

Well we made it through the year, through another apocalypse, through another mud-slinging election and we are safely landing in the warm bosom of 2013, emerging anew. I'm not going to pretend I listened to everyone's favorite album this year, but after some reflection, 2012 was a pretty-fucking-good year. There was hardly a game-changer in the bunch with perhaps the exception of one rap wunderkind from Compton, but that doesn't make it my favorite record of the year. My list is dominated by guitar, call me old-fashioned, call me predictable (I might be)-I still find that the ancient [...]

Gap Dream's self-titled debut album was released earlier this year from Burger Records ( buy ) and definitely deserved a post on CWR, but hey you can't always get to everything that you want to, right? Besides, there's this follow-up 7" that is equally as enticing as the one man band's full-length...but seriously if you haven't heard it yet get over to Bandcamp right now. The man responsible is Gabriel Fulvimar out of Cleveland, but as of a couple weeks ago he now lives here in California. The two new tracks on his Ali [...]
