The Graboid is back this week and with so many great albums to choose from, it comes as a friendly reminder of why this can be such a useful resource for you week in and week out. The 10000-pound gorilla in the room has to be M832s Hurry Up, We're Dreaming - the ambitious double album from Anthony Gonzalez. While an excellent record, there is another release that should not be overlooked and might be just as worthy of your well-earned money - Real Estate's Days . As far as I'm concerned, [...]

Bay-Area songwriter Garrett Pierce has quite the talent for placing the universal beside the personal. In fact, his lyrics sometimes blur, if not destroy, the line that separates us from everyone else. The title track off his EP "Everybody Breaks" showcases this best as he sings the lyrics "Everybody breaks without knowing quite why." Day-to-day struggles are magnified and given a touch of distinction in such a way that his stories are essentially like an observation we've unintentionally by-passed until it's uniquely pointed out for us. Pierce's EP is slated for release Tuesday, however, it is only an [...]

Raking through the plethora of singer-songwriters to find those worth listening to can feel a lot like drowning in faux earnest, over-emoted tears, which is why it's always extra pleasant to find one like Garrett Pierce . Someone who understands real folk shouldn't blandly wash around in the background, but affect you in a deep, earthy way "without knowing quite why." 'Everbody Breaks' is the lead track on his new EP, an overspill from a forthcoming album, and though short, the delicate guitar, moving sentiment and gospel-inspired drums pack a mighty little two minute [...]

Last night I got a chance to hangout with J Irvin Dally last night when he came through San Diego on a mini tour with Garrett Pierce. We took them out for burritos and met up with them at Bar Pink for a free show. Its cool to see how much he's grown since I first found out about him last year. He's been a huge supporter of ours by playing some IC events- including the SXSW Silver Series and the LA 25 event. There's just something really unique about Jordan. He's got this nostalgic style, this jazz [...]
