Freshly Hatched :: A Fuel/Friends Mix For New People

Freshly Hatched :: A Fuel/Friends Mix For New People In January, the marvelous website couchsurfing.org brought us a terrific set of houseguests: a couple from the beaches of California asked to stay in my home while they came to Colorado to pick up the due-any-day baby that they had just been chosen to be the adoptive parents of. For two weeks we got to host them and their brand new little guy, all wide eyes and stretching fingers. It was, in a word, magnificent. We forget that they make people that little, that new. Light as air and just about perfect. As I am wont [...]

Friday Top 5: Unusual Collaborations

Artists don't always make the best decisions. Perhaps they just get bored. Reinventing themselves after every album must get tiresome. I guess that's why some musicians choose to collaborate with people from other genres. Leaps of faith, even if they are doomed to failure, are more interesting than repeating the same old song and dance. Finding out the hard way that something is a bad idea is more exciting than going through the motions of what has been done before. Oftentimes though, it's best to stick with what you know. Otherwise you end [...]

Garth Brooks Gives Back

I love it when I hear celebrities are doing good especially when it's as good as this. According to reports, Garth Brooks did something major for the city of Nashville by performing a string of concerts in the area. Sources are saying that fans came in droves to the city for the gigs and spent a rather sizable fortune on local albums. In total, the legendary country singer helped raise an astonishing $10 million. That's on top of the pre-Christmas $3 million raised for the local flood victims through the gigs. Now that was a gift that Nashville surely needed. [...]

Ep. 430 – Garth Brooks @ Bridgestone Arena – Nashville, TN

Ep. 430 – Garth Brooks @ Bridgestone Arena – Nashville, TN Don't hate me, just let the fans lead on this one, because that's what YouTellConcerts is all about. Plus, I have never been big on Garth Brooks. That said, when Garth Brooks comes to Nashville and sells out nine shows as part of a flood benefit, you can't just "not go." I decided to hit up Thursday night's 10pm (12/16) show. Yes, he pulled a double-shift. My company holiday dinner had just finished at a restaurant across the street from the arena as the 7pm crowd spilled into the street. I had an hour or so to kill [...]

Garth Brooks & ‘Ropin’ The Wind’: A Look Back

Garth Brooks & ‘Ropin’ The Wind’: A Look Back Today marks one of the biggest dates in country music history. Nineteen years ago, Garth Brooks did something that no artist within the genre had ever done before. His Ropin' The Wind album had been one of the more anticipated releases of 1991, as sales for his previous album, No Fences, had gone through the roof, thanks to such Brooks classics as "Friends In Low Places" and "The Thunder Rolls." His label, Liberty Records, was expecting solid sales from the album. The debut single, "Rodeo," was moving up the singles chart quickly. [...]

Martina McBride: Looking Back…And Ahead!

Martina McBride: Looking Back…And Ahead! The year was 1992. For Martina McBride , it seems like it was yesterday. Her first single, "The Time Has Come," had just been released, and she was in her East Nashville home one night when she heard the record played on the air for the first time on WBVR 101.1 FM out of Russellville, KY. There have been many changes in the life and career of the top-selling artist, and on Monday, she sat down with Billboard's Wade Jessen for a conversation concerning her career at the Country Music Summit, held at Nashville's Hermitage Hotel. The [...]

Rock 'n' Roll Spelling Bee: S-O-N-G-S That Have Us Spellbound

Fergie - Fergalicious
Filed under: The Hit List Let's face it: Spelling bee champs aren't likely to become rock stars. Yet every now and then a rock star will try to prove he or she is an ace speller. While the US' annual National Spelling Bee finals in Washington, D.C. this week reminds us that it's "i" before "e" except after, ah . . . whatever that was, we figured this was a good time to look at some of the more memorable songs with spelling in them. [...]

2010 Academy Of Country Music Awards Recap

2010 Academy Of Country Music Awards Recap The 45th Annual ACM Awards are now a thing of that past, but the opinions will flow about Sunday night's CBS telecast as much as the wine (and other beverages) in Las Vegas. With that said, LimeWire Music Blog offers our thoughts on everything about the awards. THE HOST: I thought that the eternally ageless Reba McEntire did a fantastic job as the emcee of the broadcast. She was the perfect host before her WB sitcom, but her comedic skills and timing are so much better as [...]
