So, Springfield's pretty much flooded. It has rained non-stop since probably 8pm last night. The tiny creek next to my uncle's shop is now a raging river and driving around town, since Springfield's drainage system is terrible, is near impossible and a lot of intersections you just have to take backroads around. Let's just say me and the weather here in Springfield have been on bad terms for quite a while now. This year has been ridiculous. T-shirt weather, next day ice storm. T-shirt weather, next couple days flooding. I've never been ready for Spring and Summer to arrive in [...]

Whether you're lying on your back watching clouds drift, or sitting on the edge of a cliff listening to waves explode against the rocks, or watching the big sky over the flat plains of Missouri while burning along in a rusted pick-up truck, these sky songs will help. The sadly departed Chris Whitley recorded a lot of intimate blues in his time - most evoking skin against skin, old shacks surrounded by dead trees, dry wood crackling in the firepiece - but this is his masterpiece, from his debut album, a tender romance of the big sky: [...]
Donnie Darko has been, since the day I saw it, my all-time favorite film -- I love it. It is a complete masterpiece in all aspects of the word, and I have nothing but the greatest of admiration for it's stunning story, acting, cinematography, and music. The music is comprised of several tunes from the 1980s (as that is when the story takes place), interspliced with Michael Andrews' magnificent score. Among the 1980s tunes are Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart", Echo & The Bunnymen's "The Killing Moon", and a breath-taking cover of Tears For [...]
Hello everyone, So I have a few things I would like to quickly bring up. The first thing is irrelevant to most of you, the second is a favor I need to ask of you. The third is "the best of Indie Muse"-Mp3's that hopefully you will like. Indiemuse.com has been here for a while, but some of you are newcomers. For those of you who don't have time to go through all of my first band posts, I want to aggregate some of the Mp3's so you can have a listen. If they are on this [...]

. . . And i find it kinda funny; i find it kinda sad - . . . . . . . the dreams in which i'm dying . are the best i've ever had. . . . When people run in circles, it's a [...]
Heartbeats Original: The Knife Cover: José González Prima [...]
anyone's guess stepped out to the presidio earlier this evening to take in the san francisco shakespeare festival 's free performance of a midsummer night's dream - which happens to be the play we performed, quite memorably, my first summer at jabberwocky . though tonight's show felt somewhat uneven overall, bright moments did abound: helena, bottom & oberon, in particular, acquitted themselves well; "pyramus & thisbe," the play within the play, received and deserved hearty laughter near the evening's close; and some (though not all) of the costumes & music & props, updated for [...]
Mad World - Gary Jules I must admit that it was a bit of a shock to discover that the dirty 80s electro version of this song was actually the original. I, however, will always prefer this cover version, commonly known as the Donnie Darko version, largely because that film had such an impression on me. Tread Easy – The Bank Holidays I was trawling through all my old songs, trying to get them sorted, when I discovered this gem. The Bank Holidays are from Perth (I think), [...]

"Deadly Snakes" - Gore Veil "Hold Me in The River" - Breaks "It's Cool To Love Your Family" - Feist "Volcanoes" - Islands "Finish It" - Craig Mansell & Kronos Quartet "Bluefish" - Gary Jules Eugene Mirman at Caroline's on Broadway [...]

I`m taking the rest of the week off from Blogging, so think of this as the rest of the weeks posts wrapped up in 1...and boy do I have THA SHIT for you today. Lots of good music from some great artists, so lets get the ball rolling.. 1- Yes of course I`m gonna talk about the new Kings Of Leon , I listened to the album a good 20 times yesterday. Its a solid effort, a lot harder then usual, and I must say the stronger songs are at the end of [...]

Well, it's happening again. Another fab-o collabo as The Duke from The Late Greats and I present 20 Covers That Are Better Than The Originals. I'm almost prepared to say this is 20 Covers That Are Than The Originals, Volume 1 because lord knows there are many more than 20 cover songs that are better than the originals. One must start somewhere and so, we present this list. There are no sacred cows here. We say fuck you to some of the [...]

...to me! Gary Jules - Mad World.mp3 Leggi ancora

With all the recent news about the return of Cat Stevens and the longstanding blog love for Jose Gonzalez, singer-songwriter Gary Jules is an artist who - if you like Cat or Jose or even early John Cale - you will immediately fall in love with. He's a white guy with a guitar, a lot of tattoos, a poet's heart, a soulful voice and the ability to touch you with his beautiful song. Skip back about 4 years to the accidental hit song he had - the cover [...]

We all know him from the Donnie Darko soundtrack . It was his cover of Mad World, a Tears for Fears classic, which first put Gary on the map whether or not it sounds like an R.E.M. original. For the record, at first listen to this track, I couldn't tell his voice from Michael Stipe's if my life depended on it. All covers and famous Georgian voices aside Gary Jules has finally begun making an impact on his own. His career started off rough as he was bounced around, and largely [...]
Are there any better ways to start a week than with some covers? Well, probably there are, yes, but it's still pretty damn good. MP3 Colin Meloy - Charlie (Shirley Collins) Apparently Shirley Collins had a big impact on folk music, particularly in the UK, but I'm afraid that I hadn't heard of her before getting hold of this Colin Meloy cover. She obviously holds a great deal of importance to Meloy as he released an entire album of him covering her songs. 'Charlie' is the kind of [...]
