I get close to 50 emails everyday from promo folks offering up new music. It takes a huge amount of time to go through these emails properly (download tracks, listen to tracks, read promo info about the band etc. ec.). I am thankful to get these emails since they expose me to new music but I just wish I could find a better way to manage them. And I wish I had the time to properly post about each one individually. Yes, some are shite but the majority are pretty decent. I just don't know how to effectively handle all [...]
The Gary Chub EP ( Cedar Fever ) The Gary's origins are on the Comal River, July 2008. Paul Warner paddled over to Dave Norwood and suggested they start a band called The Gary. Dave saw no reason why they shouldn't play in a band called The Gary, and so it began. It should be noted that both were several beers into their river journey, and it [...]

its not very often that a band likens themselves to silkworm. or, at very least claims them as an influence. which is actually a damn shame, cause quite frankly i think that silkworm for being just a 3 piece rock band had one of the most distinct sounds i have ever heard. i cant say i have heard a band that sounds remotely like em. anyway, so when a release came across my inbox that claimed texas' the garys claim such an influence, i had to check em out. now, they aint the second coming of silkworm, kinda as i [...]
There was a time in the early 90s when the Pacific Northwest was rotten with bands like The Gary. A certain amount of angst, a certain measure of attitude, and a DIY approach that prefaced today's proliferation of bands...

The Gary is a trio based out of Austin, Texas whom has just recently released their seven song debut EP titled Chub. While members of The Gary admittedly share an interest in the back catalogs of such labels as Touch & Go, Drag City, and Dischord I found that their sound is best described by the members themselves as "slop rock". It's something that seemingly fits and ultimately what they get when drawing from post-punk luminaries such as Husker Du , Mission of Burma , etc and allowing them branch out into more [...]
The Gary is an oddly named indie rock trio based out of Austin, TX (the centre of everything cool). Recently, The Gary (strangely none of the members are named Gary) released the seven-track Chub EP. The band's sound is firmly rooted in the '90s lo-fi slacker rock tradition. Influences of Pavement and Sebadoh are dripping from the record. This can have good results and bad results. "Damn
