Halloween comes in many forms. For some, it's pure eerie darkness. For others, it's about a more playful sort of mischief. Thankfully, we adults can spend an entire weekend acting out all of the many sorts of Halloween, from the sluttiest soirées to the spookiest séances. Whether you want to shake your costume-clad booty a bit or explore your nearest graveyard with earbuds in tow, hopefully we've got you covered. Happy Halloween from Earmilk! Below are some of the spookiest picks from a few of us at Earmilk. Enjoy! Courtesy [...]

October, The Journal This art and theory journal from MIT champions itself at the vanguard of modern creativity. Their summer issue focused on themes of film and video. Some articles available free, other through JStor.

In this weeks the Other Paper I wrote about Double Happiness . This is a new venue in the Brewery District owned by, Yalan Papillons and her family.Yalan booked Santo's Party House, the Knitting Factory, Europa, and Studio B in New York before moving back to Columbus. In that article, I discussed this venue capability to bring unique events to our city. Well, tomorrow is a good example of next level ish that could happen if the support is here.. Scott Niemet's KVLT Party is throwing [...]
TEENGIRL FANTASY was my favorite new act to emerge from 2010. In a year where more music was slathered in lo-fi gloss than not, their brand of retro-sheen shone the brightest. Delicately sourced... Support indie media! Read the rest at thephoenix.com . . .
Holy hell what a dance party lined up tonight at Great Scott, the Allston venue that's been stacking its dance party deck lately by promoting pansexual drag night Don't Ask Don't Tell... Support indie media! Read the rest at thephoenix.com . . .

During Fleet Foxes' headlining set on Saturday night, I looked up from the crowd to the jumbo-tron on the left and noticed the boom camera was high in the air shooting the audience. It was an endless sea of faces made orange by the stage's flood light and a surprisingly powerful street-light that hung over the main stage. Eighteen thousand people watching Fleet Foxes - if you would have told me three years ago that this Seattle collective would be playing for 18,000 people I would have pushed you down a hill. It's a testament to the spirit [...]
Yesterday marked the first day of 2011's Pitchfork Music Festival, the Chicago fest that's now in it's sixth year of running. When the Friday shows first started, they were usually dominated by big-name bands doing something special, such as Public Enemy playing It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back or the Flaming Lips participating in the "Write the Night" special. Last year, the fest began taking the logical step of making Friday just another day of the festival, though they had comedians playing their third stage. This year, it was all music, with a lineup [...]
The beautiful thing about a festival like Pitchfork is the genre-spanning curating: The principal principle is a commitment to independent-minded music, and from that viewpoint Pitchfork succeeds in booking the year's best lineup for those whose RSS feeds are dominated by MP3 blogs and Google searches most frequently include the term ".rar". The difficulty comes when indie and intimate coincide, as they often do, and acts who are best situated for small spaces with minimal light get exposed under bright sun and across open fields. So the dank, eerie electronic sounds of smoke-and-lights electronic duo Gatekeeper getting pitched at 3:30PM, [...]
After a forever trek from Knoxville TN that featured an unplanned stop in a Pentacostal Worship Service, I find myself in the far less holy Union Park for the Pitchfork Music Festival's first day. The first act of the day, electronic duo GateKEEPER, hit the Blue Stage (the smallest stage, a cross the park from [...]

May is just about wrapped, and the weather is shaping up just nicely. Franki Chan has just finished his latest mixtape, and it is one of his finest yet. This Summer Nites , as it's called, is a well thought out 50 minutes of nighttime summer bliss. The songs have been carefully selected and mixed to provide a fitting background to the warm nights ahead. Filled with house and disco vibes, and peppered with atmosphere, This Summer Nites is dense with rising stars, featuring both remixes and originals from newcomers such as Azari & III and Gatekeeper. This month's Blogdrone column is a live special, taking in performances seen at Lanzarote and BleeD over the last few weeks (who are both fast becoming London's best promoters for all kinds of leftfield synth music). I begin with Lanzarote on Saturday 14th May at Electrowerkz, whose bizarre abandoned Quasar type vibes and copious UV lighting were actually quite an apt fit for the acts playing: Scottish drone wizard Konx-om-Pax, Nu-New Age synth artist Laurel Halo and horror revivalists Gatekeeper. Starting the night was Konx-om-Pax (aka Tom Scholefield); with a heavy use of samples as well [...]

East London played host to a hotch potch of glorious new and alternative music last Thursday night for the annual Stag & Dagger Festival. Armed with a neon wristband I scampered all over Shoreditch to uncover some mighty fine venues a... Read more..
