MP3: My Mysterious Death (Turn It Up) The more your hear about the origin of Old Columbus bands, the more you realize how many of them formed accidentally, the result of spontaneity and serendipity. Thomas Jefferson Slave Apartments was one such band. On a night about 20 years ago, soon after the dissolution of Ron House's previous band, Great Plains , a band playing Stache's ended early. The story could have ended right there. Everyone at the bar [...]
Razorlight have today confirmed that founding members Bjorn Agren (guitar) and Carl Dalemo (bass) left the band late last year. In an official statement, their replacements were also confirmed. 'We can officially confirm that founder members Bjorn Agren and Carl Dalemo agreed on an amicable parting following unproductive early recording sessions for a new album late last year. Agren is currently producing, remixing and playing guitar with Lucy Rose and Carl Dalemo is planning his own band. Gus Robertson (Mick Jones) comes in as guitarist and Freddie Stitz (Smokey Angle Shades) [...]
this interview with Bret Lewis took place prior to the Gaunt tribute show at the Summit January 1st. To read about the actuall show, here is Rick Allen's review. I grew up on rap so my knowledge of Gaunt is from osmosis. I'm not an expert. Yeah, but you said you grew up with Nick Shuld? Yeah, I like that guy now. But at the time he was a year older, and seemed snooty. So when he joined Gaunt, it was another reason to hate [...]
Believe it or not, I actually tried quite hard to avoid making this month's mix too current - starting with Wanda Jackson 's incredible haunting 1961 country/rock "Funnel of Love," as well as including a few 90s tracks that I think are just as good now as they were 15 years ago. RIP ( Gaunt frontman) Jerry Wick . But alas, I couldn't help myself. The Future Islands album is too good not to point out, and "Vireo's Eye" is an example of why I like it so much. I was out of [...]
I reviewed the new Larry Jon Wilson album for the August edition Spin . You can check it out on pg. 93 in print or the digital edition . Also in that issue: Spin's list of the "100 greatest bands you've (probably) never heard of," which is a good read, especially because it includes four legendary Columbus bands: Gaunt, Great Plains, Royal Crescent Mob and Scrawl.

(Please give a warm A to Z welcome to Last Days of Man on Earth proprietor Joe Stumble, who graciously penned this blog post about the Columbus, Ohio, music scene to wrap up our Cleveland Rocks! week(ish). Visit his blog for tons of great posts about and MP3s of forgotten bands -- that you should really know about.) Prisonshake. Hmmmm…noisy rock & roll. Cleveland. OHIO. I went to school in Ohio. I up and moved there on my own [...]
"Yeah, I remember when she did that in 2005. It was a scandal. She's done 85 things since then. You're still mad about Offense #2 ?" -- Tom, informing Spike that the "fool woman" Spears has moved well beyond unbuckled kids "I don't want to say my 'excuse', but that's what has led me to these, you know, kinda outbursts I outbursted when I was on your show before." -- Ken Rogers, attributing his foulmouthed non-interviews to his Tri-Polar Situation "I loved it when Anna Nicole Smith died. It [...]
"I wish I could hit the button and the calls would be like flowing like gravy. Like good, funny, gravy." -- Tom, longing for less pre-topic viscosity "Let me present to you, people of the jury, why we should take our bar vacation to South America. Exhibit A: this brochure I procured from a local travel agent." -- Paul from Nashville, litigating his rich people's problem in his apartment "What was that over, which display was more boring?" -- Tom, trying to figure out why a college [...]
