"Definitely the thumbtacks," Gauntlet Hair's lanky, wisecracking drummer Craig Nice answers without hesitation. His confident answer is met with decided skepticism from band mate Andy. "I don't know, they might not ever come out." "Andy, you could cut off your lower lip," Craig offers, "you could get some great vocals like that. You'd just need a thick moustache to comb down over it." I'm sitting with Denver based noise rock duo, now trio, Gauntlet Hair outside of a Silverlake coffee house where dark blend is referred to as Onyx. We're across the street from [...]

Greenhorse's performance at the Satellite was more than just a typical opening band on a Friday night. Sharing their home state with popular headliners Gauntlet Hair (its Wyoming), Greenhorse also recognized how monumental this moment really is: "It's kind of exciting because when we first moved to L.A, we came to Spaceland and we were [...]

The first single, "You Are the One," cements the band's strengths in spacey, smokey shoegaze [...]

This edition of Monday Threesome revolves around a specific scene, rather than a sound. While not typically thought of as a hotbed of musical creativity, Denver, Colorado has produced several quality bands of late, each one opting for a different sonic template to manifest their Rocky Mountain roots. By now, the story behind indie-pop darlings Tennis (@tennisinc) has become that of legend. A husband/wife duo embarked on a seven month expedition on the Atlantic Ocean, using their travels at sea as inspiration for [...]

Let's be honest with ourselves. Despite their accessible reverb harmonies, noodley guitars and delightfully gauche electronic drum kit, the boys in Gauntlet Hair make some spooky music. "Top Bunk," the second track off their eponymous full length debut , blends the harmless sensibility of summer camp pillow talk gossip with chopped, stringy guitars and foreboding minor key interludes. Long before the song was treated to one of the most compelling indie music videos in years, listening to the entire album was to indulge in a sort of pleasant, creeping malaise. It's an inkling of terror that's good til the last kick drum drop or wonky chord, as [...]

Tweet vaso link If you aren't aware at this point, we really like Gauntlet Hair around here. Their noisy, reverb-soaked songs hit our collective ears just right. We saw the band perform at last year's NxNE; I think Will saw them open for Unknown Mortal Orchestra this past October as well. If you're a fan of the band, it's worth it to see them live: their energy and complete lack of enunciation/lyrical understandability is translated into a live setting. [...]

So reticent, reclusive, and resultantly anonymous are Gauntlet Hair that when they swing by to hammer in an ear or two it's almost worth hiking to whichever far-flung nook it may be that they've been booked into to in turn wreck the crap out of just to witness firsthand who the enigmatic duo behind the sepia-doused Instagram snaps on their rather rudimentary website really are. Tonight the outlying cranny is Dalston's Shacklewell Arms, where Novella are unleashing a fierce grunge revival like it's last month all over again . They this time [...]
