This brand new face (or voice rather) for Rarities comes highly recommended by Peter Nagle from the always brilliant 2 U I Bestow . Since Peter and I reviewed it for other blog 4fortyfour recently, Baum's debut solo album Music for my Landlord has been playing on my laptop constantly, and I now urge you to check out the Brooklyn based singer-songwriter too. Here's what Baum's MySpace page has to say: [...]

Currently starring on HBO's ' How to Make It in America ,' the actor and musician is gearing up for the promotional tour for his upcoming second album, 'We Don't Have Forever.' So far, it seems like he's got the right attitude to take on tour with him. "I've seen it in all aspects [...]

We've been patiently waiting all year for new Patrick Stump music , and this cover of Gavin DeGraw's "I Don't Want To Be" isn't exactly what we were hoping for. Haven't we heard this song enough on American Idol ? And how long are we going to be treated to just Stumpified covers instead of original tunes? Still, beggers can't be choosy, so we'll gladly accept anything he chooses to sing. Listen below! Patrick Stump - I Don't Want To Be (Gavin DeGraw cover) [...]

We all know that pop music is a really collegial field where artists, songwriters, producers and other creative souls all co-exist peacefully and treat each other with respect , right? Right. That's why we were surprised to learn that Bravo — the TV network currently riding high on catty catnip like The Real Housewives Of New York City — is casting for a reality competition centering on pop songwriting. Ryan Tedder approves, so you know that nothing bad will happen . Could this show actually work? Watch the star-studded casting video below. [...]

I'm not sure how many shows I've been to this year, but my total has to be around 80. It was a fun year transitioning to the Nashville lifestyle. This is a small big city packed with talent, venues, and hella cool people. It's almost like a secret treasure for the music lover. All the great hangouts are close to each other, living is affordable, there's something for everyone musically, and you can't beat a 7 minute commute to work. Plus, being the home for a lot of labels, Nashville gets a strong dose of industry events too. [...]

Well, 2009 is coming to a close and it's about that time to review the top albums of the year. This was a really good year for music in my opinion, so it forced me to expand the list from the normal 10 I do to 15 albums. ______________________________ ______________________________ 15. Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , Exclusive , Movies Having recently completed a tour with his band, Counting Crows vocalist Adam Duritz is now looking forward to some rest and relaxation. "I'm not doing jack for a while," he tells Spinner, "I'm gonna hang out in New York City. I'm gonna ride the subway." The time off is well-deserved: On top of his rock career, Duritz has been moonlighting as a movie producer. His latest film project, 'Freeloaders,' is a collaboration [...]

Gavin DeGraw and Collective Soul, who have been touring together, took some time out of their busy schedule to engage in a blood-shedding brawl with some hecklers at the House Of Blues in Myrtle Beach, S.C., on Sunday night. If the account on DeGraw's Twitter is to be believed, the whole thing appeared to be borne out of the need to defend one's honor against accusations of wussiness: "Me and my crew just got in a 20 man brawl with a group of juiced up assholes. I guess they think that just [...]

Gavin Degraw played a sold-out show at the Exit/In on Monday promoting his new album "Free." On this new CD, Gavin says his intention was "to stay out of the way of the songs," keeping production elements to a minimum, so the listener can focus on the songwriting. Gavin took my breath away. I've never seen anyone so flawless live. I've seen him three or four times, and he's perfect at every show. If you see him once, you'll make it a point to see him again and again. [...]

Gavin DeGraw has had quite the career since his breakthrough song "I Don't Want to Be" was featured as the theme song of the hit show One Tree Hill. His music has received radio play across the US, he's appeared on every day time and late night TV show under the sun, has toured all over the world, and has released three albums, with the most recent, Free, being released just last month. I came across this bootleg from last week the other day and thought it was a nice mixture of music, with seven of the nine songs [...]
