According to Astronautalis, a Minneapolis-based rapper, he's teamed up with Justin Vernon of Bon Iver fame, as well as S. Carey and Ryan Olsen of Gayngs. I've always been a big fan of what I've heard from Astronautalis, and this could shape into a very cool project. Apparently the group has the LP already completed, and want to get it released and onto touring as quickly as possible. As for what the output might sound like, the only word we've got so far is from Astro's recent interview with City Pages in which he says "it will only sound like [...]
Filed under: News , New Music Charley Gallay, Getty Images Justin Vernon has a studio named April Base, so it only makes sense that it would yield a high return of creative output during the fourth month of the year. And that's exactly what happened: Justin Vernon, Minneapolis rapper Astronautalis , Bon Iver drummer S. Carey and Gayngs leader/ Polica member Ryan Olson convened in Vernon's studio last weekend to [...]

What can Justin Vernon not do? The indie crooner is reported to have finished recording a new album with S. Carey, Ryan Olson (founder of Gayngs), and rapper Astronautalis. Is this another hip hop turn for Vernon since his collaborations with Kanye West in 2010? Read more »
The Minneapolis City Pages reports that Bon Iver's Justin Vernon has formed a new band with the folksy Minneapolis indie-rapper Astronautilis and that the two holed up to start recording a new album this weekend. The collaboration also includes Gayngs mastermind Ryan Olson (who's presumably the connecting thread here) and Bon Iver drummer/solo artist S. Carey. Read More...

There's a theme to the top and tail of the UK with today's post as our blog is based in the South, but it's the Northern music blog, Crack In The Roa d, to thank for today's tip, so credit to the Newcastle blogger Josh and the gang for this delightful highlight. If you've never visited Crack In The Road, then you [...]

![[SXSW] – POLIÇA](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4136225_lg.jpg)
by Mila Matveeva I caught POLIÇA playing one of their many shows at SXSW packed to the brim. The group was started by former Gayngs bandmates Channy Leaneagh and Ryan Olson and fronts musicians that have been doing this for a long time.Leaneagh's voice is some strange combo of the ethereal, while maintaining the urgency of La Roux and POLIÇA plays with two live drummers with kits so big, so I am totally down for it. Watch the video for [...]
Tweet vaso link I really, really enjoy Wikipedia. I often find myself aimless wandering about through the dusty (or at least I tell myself it is dusty, so that it feels like an ancient library) channels and hallways of the online encyclopaedia. (And if you have never tried this, I dare you to give it a shot. Just go the the main page of the site, click random and then read. You never know where you might end up and you never know what you could [...]

gayngs - the gaudy side of town

As the British intellectual, Stephen Fry, once said, " it is the useless things that ultimately make life worth living, and that make life dangerous, too. Wine, love, art, beauty, music ", the list goes on. It is with this thought in mind that we turn to today's recommendation. At the heart of every musician you should locate a creative of the useless. They should simply be a spout pouring music all over our experiences. An outlet for their imagination, a resourceful talent for their inspired artistry. Why most artists stick to one genre, or one band for that matter, [...]

polica Three reasons to dress up as Leap Day William at Lincoln Hall tonight... 1. Minnesota is well represented tonight. Minneapolis' own rising indie darlings Polica delight with thumping bass, double drum theatrics, and lush, autotuned vocals. The quartet's tasty electronic R&B flavor more than makes up for the omission of electric guitars on its debut album Give You The Ghost , which was produced by Gayngs' Ryan Olson. WATCH: " Lay Your Cards Out " [...]

( Monday Music's the one weekly blog where SOIWT abandons its London-only focus, and goes global ) RM Hubbert - Sunbeam Melts the Hour (Feat. Marion Kenny & Hanna Tuulikki) Kicking off with swaggering, staggering plucks of a rusty ol' guitar, this could easily be the soundtrack to a violent, slow-motion section in a western, the scene where we see a portrait of domestic happiness which will inevitably get smashed up. The punch-drunk, whiskeyed feel is spellbinding - and appropriate, since Hubbert is a bleary Scot. [...]

Sometime ago I posted a short blurb introducing Poliça and speculating that they will "make great strides this new year." I'd like to retract that statement and offer a new one: Poliça will (maybe) be big. While this unfortunately means that they will become the "prize" of blogosphere eccentrics and hip music nerds, I honestly feel that this Gayngs-inspired group will be the crowning champions (at least in my book) of this highly anticipated year in music. Somewhat preceded by the release of "Wandering Star," "Dark Star," and [...]
I heard this song on the radio this day and thought it sounded good enough on the crappy little thing to warrant Googling. Christ, was I right! It's by Poliça, a relatively new band from Minneapolis who's debut album Give You The Ghost is just about to come out in the States. It's a four piece with a pedigree, featuring Gayngs frontman Ryan Olson as well as Marijuana Deathsquads' drummer Ben Ivascu. The vocals are provided by Channy Casselle, who used to be in Roma di Luna. Enough about them though, because that's all stuff you can read [...]
