Cat Copelands Crooked Thugs EP Crooked Prince Cat Copeland - Crooked Prince //// Small Time Crooks EP //// Single by Bummer Bit I found this the other day and was blown away at the extremly original sound Cat Copeland posseses. His songwriting and vocals are extremely catching and keep em locked. That paired with

Dead Gaze fuzzing it out hard core at Bruar Falls at Forest Family + Tangent & Times + Sarahspy CMJ Showcase

Don't know why I slept on future Mississippi legend Cole Furlow aka Dead Gaze 's cut from his new 103 on Group Tightener , It's Not Real . Dubbed gonzo-pop by our friends at Weekly Tape Deck , I'm going to have to agree that there is something special about his bizarre and blustery pop songs. I love the way his output has a sublime mix of melancholy and joy. Don't snooze on this, pick up your copy via Group Tightener [...]

With every release it becomes more and more apparent that Dead Gaze is not just "lo-fi." Cole Furlow is making pop music here, he's just using the a different set of tools. The signature "under water vocals", garish synths and syrupy guitar swirl together with pounds of angst, yet the end result still manages to sound shockingly beautiful. Dead Gaze - It's Not Real by Group Tightener It's Not Real will be included on a Dead [...]
Presented for your consideration today: two fine New Bands whose aural tendencies echo the past, specifically that magical decade or so stretching from 1985-1995, when College Rock was actually a Thing. Good times, those what with talented and possibly drugged up students spinning everything under the sun that would never see the light of day on Top 40 radio. Jangly arch-country from Camper Van Beethoven rubbing musical elbows with imported British takeover applicants The Charlatans UK (the appended UK gives it away). But first and [...]

If you were looking for some good lo-fi music to throw on your headphones then look no further. The fuzzed out sounds of Dead Gaze have been flowing through my earphones all day and I'm already obsessed with their sound, keeping in mind that lo-fi is not exactly my cup of tea. Out of who knows how many of these lo-fi bands out there these days these guys caught my attention the most because of a couple of reasons. First off, these guys sound extremely nostalgic to me. Their sound reminds me a lot of My Bloody Valentine, and a [...]

Illustration by Celeste Byers [ Circus Company ] "Minimal" - in its kinda-organic, vaguely tropical, hinting-at-house iteration - doesn't get much coverage around these parts anymore. There was a brief moment a few years back, though, when it was on the tip of everyone's tongues - when each Oslo release was awaited with baited breath, when "Mumbling Yeah" was "Hyph Mngo," [...]
Rumor has it that Dead Gaze's latest superjam, "It's Not Real" has been recorded with marching band bass drums at the band hall of a Mississippi community college. I honestly don't know about that, but what I do now is that this psych-rock tune was instant love. Dead Gaze is the brainchild of songwriter R. [...]
The notorious Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts makes a triumphant return to Circus Company after last year's critically acclaimed album, Breaking the Fourth Wall, with 3 deeper than deep (s)explosions sure to become omnipresent fixtures in the sets of damn near any DJ with even a shred of good sense in the months to come. 'Ubiquitous Gaze' gets the ball rolling in classic Coutu Dumont style with a rollicking sea of percussion thankfully populated with a few desert islands of respite in the form of a gorgeously lush string and piano arrangement and the soft meandering monologue of a certain [...]

When I saw Mississippi oddity Cole Furlow at SXSW this year with a new lineup, an added guitar and a full year of releasing music on the Dead Gaze moniker I was completely blown away. He had found his sound. He had grown incredibly since he played our unofficial SXSW show in 2010. With this new release on record-makers Group Tightener , Furlow displays mature songwriting and further fine-tunage of his gonzo-pop. Check out the 2nd track on the 103 below titled "It's Not Real". Pre-order Dead Gaze 103 [...]

The speed in which the artists over at the Cats Purring have been churning out beautiful pop gems is almost startling. In the last two weeks the Oxford (Mississippi) based collective has featured on the site twice, through Dent May and Gray Things respectively. It's now the turn of Dead Gaze , who've just announced they're to release their new record on NY based label Group Tightener . With the new announcement came a new track, [...]

Dead Gaze // "It's Not Real" It's no secret that I love the Cats Purring dudes. Heck, we even hooked one of them up with a tape release over in Chill Mega Chill land. So when I read the news of Dude Rancher Dead Gaze 's new approaching 10" on Group Tightener I was understandably stoked. Up there you can stream the first cut to surface from the EP titled "It's [...]

Excellent new tune by Oxford, Mississippi's Dead Gaze from their forthcoming, five-track 10 inch on Brooklyn imprint Group Tightener . Wonderfully laid-back, fuzzed-out slacker pop, mildly psychedelic and actually pretty groovy, just in time for summer's last days of sweetest haziness. Pre-order the EP now over here .

Soit l'occasion idoine pour rentrer en correspondance, sporadique et spontanée, avec Cole Furlow, dépositaire unique d'un groupe ardemment révélé à la faveur de deux EP ,The Pride of Calling Panther Lake ( lire ) et Small Lava ( télécharger ), d'une cassette, End of Days, Why Not You ? Link: http://twitter.com/#!/jacky_ja ck_jack At a recent Salem show, tons of twitter buzz got lifestreamed about how mainstream actress celebrity Christina Ricci was in the crowd, enjoying the dark sounds of Salem . Ricci is sort of 'the girl who would marry Marilyn Manson for 2 weeks and live in a sex dungeon', so it sorta makes sense that she would go to a Salem show to enjoy the smooth, dark rapegaze sounds of the band. This picture was taken of [...]
