We here at Muso's Guide are currently SCREAMING with anticipation for Showtime at Cargo, as presented by The Heatwave. It's going to be insane. And we thought we'd try paraphrasing, but instead we'll just tell you what they about the probable show of the year - heck, it saves a page-worth of "OMGs", does it not? GO! The Heatwave present... SHOWTIME! A bashment stageshow extravaganza The Heatwave present an unmissable dancehall experience. The biggest MCs in the UK sharing the spotlight and passing the mic in classic Jamaican style. Focus on two of the UK dancehall legends appearing at our bashment stageshow next month.

Here are some notes on an album we are listening to a lot at the moment. 1. It is very quiet and makes us want to get into bed and listen with only one eye poking out from under the covers. 2. There is a noticable drum'n'bass influence but not in the 'painfully unlistenable' sense of the term 'drum'n'bass'. 3. Think more Olive than General Levy. 4. Bright Light Bright Light is on said album. 5. We have fallen a little in love with it. The album we are talking about is by a [...]

N ow I know, you're all prepared to blast me on the title. How can jungle be the next big thing when it already came and went 20 years ago? I'll tell you how. The word "nu" (and yes, it's spelled correctly) carries a considerable amount of weight. That is, tacking "nu" onto the front of any old or outdated genre has the astonishing ability to not only inform us that this is not, in fact, that same as what it used to be, but also that this version of the genre carries with it [...]

Ragga-Dancehall Classic - as much fun as it is digging around the bum-slurry of the internet for nuggets of new music it's always nice to hear an old tune getting ragged out to fine effect. Absolute props go to Count Skylarkin for bringing this classic back to my attention. The opening track from General Levy's album "Wickedness Increase" The Count dropped "Champagne Body" after Ska Cubano smashed up the Oxford O2 Arena. Everyone went bananas and then my bell end started crying. Download audio file (01-General-Levy-Champagne-Bod y.mp3) [...]

All you electro-music listeners need to know your roots. So what is jungle music? Most of the forty years old were dancing on this considering the emergence of those beats around 1990. I will let you guys figure it out with an official definition and a collection of oldschool & newschool jungle. "Oldschool Jungle is the name given to a style of electronic music that incorporates influences from genres including breakbeat hardcore, techno, and reggae/dub/dancehall. There is significant debate as to whether jungle is a separate genre from drum and bass as some use the terms interchangeably. Drum [...]

So! Our boy KANJI KINETIC has a new EP out, and it's lush as fuck! The title track, "Zombiezz" is a B-movie (B for Bass) dubby grinder that uppercuts you when you least expect. The remixes are also pretty sick, but the B-sides are a bit more interesting (in my opinion), blending rave stylings with bassline stop-drops and rolls, and one of them ( "New Era" ) a d'n'b type dubstep blaze. I'll give you one of the B-sides, but you can preview the other tracks above and buy them if you like any! [...]

When HazMat set up the WANARB facebook group last year, he wrote in the description: "Welcome to We Are Not A Rock Band - a regularly updated music blog that supplies its readers not only with free upfront mp3's to download (often pre-release, if not recent), but also anything else that is of interest - be it live gig reviews, album reviews, funny videos, dancing grannies or any other bullshit that we deem somehow important or relevant..." Now I know we've posted plenty of mp3's, there's definitely been some gig [...]

Some kind soul on the interwebs has dug out an old BBC2 documentary about jungle (seriously.) from 1994. The sound quality isn't great but it's pretty good given how old it is. The documentary marks the period that jungle purists consider to be the point where jungle went bad; the beats got slower, the synths got dancier and eventually you got Dillinja. Before that, however, ragga jungle really kicked off in the UK with people like Tenor Fly , Shy FX and General Levy all doing incredibly well from the surge in interest. [...]
