by marissa bea Saturday afternoon I braved the rain and tourists, and visited the newest exhibition at the New Museum , down in the Bowery. This large show includes 50 artists from 25 countries, all under the age of 33, and for those curious about the title of the show, Jesus was 33 when he died, hence, Younger than Jesus . There are a few pieces in the lobby and cafe, but the real magnitude of the showcase begins one floor up, by neon green elevator. [...]

Generationals are good. Ted Joyner and Grant Widmer (no relation to Charles, we're assuming, because that dude is fictional), following the dissolution their previous band, Louisiana stalwarts and media darlings Eames Era, hunkered down and recorded a new record, packed to the brim with deeply catchy and hook-laden pop-influenced rock tracks. Immediately following the mastering of the album, which they'd intended to release on their own, they serendipitously bumped into a Park the Van exec; after the label heard the album, Con Law, Generationals quickly joined the PTV roster. (I'm not employed by a record label, [...]

First, they are from New Orleans, and honestly there is no greater place to be raised musically. Second, they are apparently ex- Eames Era members. We played their video for Watson On Your Side ages ago and I always felt they were the best band out of Baton [...]

Bye-bye, show of a generation. It's time for change.

In what may be a sign of things to come, Muxtape , the popular vitual-mixtape generating website has been shut down. Visitors to the website are greeted with the message: " Muxtape will be unavailable for a brief period while we sort out a problem with the RIAA ." Although according to a post on the Mixtape Tumblr "no artists or labels complained", clearly someone did and the RIAA took action forcing the service to close down "for a brief period". As for how long the "brief period" will last, no one knows. [...]
