Well the end of 2012 is drawing to a close and we've run down the albums that got the most play around RSTB this year. To avoid the list just being a mass of Ty Segall albums Twins (a personal fave of the bunch) takes the place on the list but the other two would have easily made the list, especially the collab with White Fence which got plenty of play around here as well. Some really great releases this year and a banner year for both Drag City and Sacred Bones with some heavy inclusions in our list. Here it is. I know you'll hate it; I know you'll disagree, but that's not the point in making an arbitrary list. We here at ATH worked really hard to fit in the tastes of the four of us, and when we decided upon our Top 50, it really boied down to simple math. What albums did we love when they came out? In my never-ending quest to right my wrongs from 2012, I bring you a hastily worded and poorly thought out review of Gentleman Jesse's Leaving Atlanta. Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars Jesse Smith didn't have the best year last year; he was mugged while helping strangers in Atlanta. You couple that with the title of the album, Leaving Atlanta , and you figure that the record might be a bit of a bummer, giving us songs about one man's struggle to leave his favorite town. Welcome to one of my very favorite songs of 2012: the driving thumping bass and giant sing-along chorus of Gentleman Jesse's "We Got To Get Out Of Here." After a mugging and beating by way of a table leg landed Jesse Smith in bed for a month, the guy was getting seriously fed up with Atlanta.
