Boasting past acts like Justice, MGMT, Modest Mouse, and Vampire Weekend, the Treasure Island Music Festival returned to San Francisco this year with a whole new dose of indie jewels. Billed for the weekend? Such critically-acclaimed artists as Cut Copy , Empire of the Sun , and St. Vincent . Those in attendance? Pirates, indians, and aliens alike. Saturday was a time for raucous play and shameless dance parties. Dizzee Rascal , Cut Copy, and Empire of the Sun led the way, attracting the weekend's highest volume of festival-goers. Chromeo 's [...]

So I went to this year's Treasure Island Music Festival , probably one of the best music festivals around with it's San Francisco skyline backdrop and two days of amazing weather, oh yeah and music, they had that too. I didn't have my DSLR camera this time around so you're going to have to deal with iPhone 4S pictures with Instagram filters. Enjoy! Geographer Best Warm-Up Act – Geographer It was nice to hear new material as I’ve been patiently waiting for it [...]
The details of the Treasure Island Music Festival are well known to Bay Area music regulars. I'll go over them briefly. The setting is beautiful, on an island in the middle of San Francisco Bay. There are only two stages that alternate acts, so there's never any clashes. There are two days: Saturday leans toward [...]

There are many reasons to arrive early to the Treasure Island Music Festival this weekend: short lines for the festival shuttles , plenty of time to explore the festival grounds , picking out choice spots at the Bridge and Tunnel Stages , and most importantly, catching this year's local openers . This year's set of locals represent some of the best of the Bay. Geographer will open the festivities on Saturday, while Weekend and Thee Oh [...]

MP3: Impossible (Javelin Remix) - G-side ft. Geographer and Jhi Ali Não costumo postar faixas de hip-hop ou rap aqui, mas as de qualidade tem seu espaço. E esse remix do duo Javelin, do Brooklyn, merece sua atenção. É só baixar e botar no ouvido. MP3: Impossible [ft. Geographer and Jhi Ali] (Javelin remix) (via Pitchfork )

Check out my photos of Ladytron and Sonoio at the Wiltern Theater over at Stereogum .
Ladytron has hit the touring circuit in support of their latest album Gravity The Seducer . Mixing a nice blend of old and new tracks, the band ignited the Wiltern crowd utilizing its four synthesizer station setup. Geographer weaved together an engaging set mixing electronic beats and a cello. Former Nine Inch Nails keyboardist Alessandro Cortini performing as Sonoio kicked off the evening with impressive set of songs off his new album Red .
5. Warpaint Described as “If Bjork fronted a70s psychedelic rock band”, Warpaint’s debut LP, The Fool turned the world of expansive atmospheric rock on its head. The album’s hallucinatory vocals and kaleidoscopic arrangements of guitars helped The Fool get a re-release Deluxe Edition due September 26th. The deluxe edition will contain the critically acclaimed debut album The Fool plus Exquisite Corpse EP & two bonus tracks: Shadows (The Neon Lights Remix) and Billie Holiday (Steve Mackey Radio Edit) . But once you see Warpaint live, they will knock you [...]

The Treasure Island Music Festival is sure not to disappoint this year. It’s only a month away, with headlining bands like Death Cab For Cutie , Warpaint and Beach House . But it doesn’t end there. The 2-day fest that runs through Oct. 15 and 16 is simply full of big name bands to check out from hip-hop to rock to electronica. With soulful artists, some extra hard beats and a little bit of pop, you’ll be hoping that the 2-day passes last. A rather unknown band, Geographer , will be on [...]

[ via Tricycle Records ] In the summer of 2005, after a series of deaths in the family, Michael Deni left his hometown in New Jersey for San Francisco. He spent the next several months with his guitar and a synthesizer, turning that tragedy into the songs that would soon become the foundation for Geographer. -- Arresting melodies set the stage for Geographer's Animal Shapes . Echoing synths and bleached vocals create a soft, airy sound that's perfect for any time of the day (but perhaps a bit more at [...]

The lineup for the Treasure Island Music Festival was just announced , promptly crashing the Treasure Island website and bringing down the Noise Pop site with it. Whoops. Here's the scoop from Pitchfork: The first day, headlined by (somewhat surprisingly) Empire of the Sun , has a lineup that leans toward stuff with dancey electronic influences: Cut Copy , Death From Above 1979 , Flying Lotus , Battles , Chromeo , Dizzee Rascal , [...]

The festival's first day leans toward the electronic side. ![Geographer - Kites [synth pop]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3617187_lg.jpg)
Geographer - Kites | 256 kbs Older track in the vacuum of the blog world. But we just got back our access to hypem at work so I've been listening to my 'hearted' tracks all morning and came across this gem again so thought I would share. Enjoy bitches.
This is the first time I can remember Club BFD being better than original BFD. First off, there's the lineup which has more melody in four bands than there'd be in 11 hours on Sunday. Then there's the Mezzanine, which welcomes its visitors with a high-res screen featuring sharp animations about tonight's show and future [...]

Bay Area-based Geographer are a trio that garnered a good deal of indie buzz with their 2010 release, Animal Shapes , on Tricycle Records . The highlight of the album is clearly "Kites," a song that sounds like a cross between Animal Collective and Jens Lekman. The album also featured a remix of the track by The Limousines, which you can thoroughly enjoy below. MP3: Geographer - "Kites (Limousines Remix)"
