An update on the last post : 'I Got My Mind Set On You' is not a George Harrison original. I haven't decided if this changes my original answer, to be honest, I'm still a bit in shock from this new information. Feels kind of like when I found out that Bobby MeFerrin didn't actually commit suicide. George's take on the original is still one of my all time favourite jams, though. It just turns out that it is now one of my all time favourite covers too.
George Harrison - " My Sweet Lord " Happy birthday to singer/songwriter and former Beatles and Traveling Willburys guitarist, George Harrison. He would have been 68. Always known as the quiet Beatle, George carved out a nice place for himself in the shadows of Lennon and McCartney. While with the Beatles, Harrison contributed songs like "Here Comes the Sun" and "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". It was only after the breakup of the Beatles that Harrison was able to release his back catalogue of music in the form of " All Things Must [...]

All Things Must Pass , o primeiro de sua carreira solo, é um deles [...]

Today, is George Harrison's birthday. He was my fav Beatles, thanks to his humble and modest personality, his amazing songwriting skills and being the brilliant guitar player. He wasn't into fast soling, but every note he played was well thought. He wasn't writing sophisticated lyrics, but he knew how to write a good story in a way everyone [...]

Dubbed "the quiet one", George Harrison contributed some of the Beatles best work and continued on to an impressive solo career. He died far too soon, but the world still has a lifetime of his work to admire and enjoy. This Friday, many Beatles fans will be celebrating what would have been George Harrison's 68th birthday. But he was far more than just "the quiet Beatle" who penned memorable hits; he was also a talented actor with a deep love of cinema, a loyal friend to many influential people, and a deeply spiritual man. He started out life as [...]
A collection of oldies led by the Beatles' colleague, joined by numerous household names.
On this day 50 years ago, The Beatles played a performance in Liverpool for a St. Valentine's Day dance. More info in the blurb below (from DMBeatles ) 1961 - Performance at the Casanova club, Liverpool. Sampson and Barlow's New Ballroom in Liverpool for a St. Valentine's Day dance. Filmed. A 8mm film, supposedly shot by a fan, was discovered in a drawer in Liverpool in the late 90's. It reportedly shows the Beatles performing in their black leathers on stage for this performance. The silent film appears to be authentic and therefore [...]

Eric Idle and chums spoof Bob Harris and The Old Grey Whistle Test in this clip from the largely forgotten mid-seventies sketch show Rutland Weekend Television. The comedy is very much of its era (i.e. it's a bit un-PC at times) but from what little I've seen of seventies Whistle Tests it seems to hit its target pretty accurately. There's a song from the ever-excellent Neil Innes too. Also from Rutland Weekend TV, here's George Harrison as you've never seen him before (unless you happened to watch the RWT Christmas Special [...]
My life changed in December when I got my first functioning record player since I lived with my parents. And in the past month I've turned into the vinyl equivalent of Jon Stewart's character in Half Baked. "Yeah, but have you done it ON VINYL?" I know, its annoying and I'm sure the obsession will [...]

The new disc by the Smith Westerns doesn't take long to reel you in. A trancy backdrop and bouncy guitar give way to a dreamy vocal on the albums opening track, and before you know it you're hooked. A much more polished effort than the Smith's (on second thought, I should probably use Western's for short) first album, the new disc still has the rambunctious youthful spirit that shone through on the debut. When contemporary music like this has a retro feel to it, comparisons to 702s rockers like T Rex and Mott the Hoople are never far [...]
The most memorable track from the debut album from Fistful of Mercy, a group featuring George Harrison's song Dhani, Ben Harper and Joseph Arthur.
Good tune off this Canadian band's debut album "Say Us", a diverse, rockin' LP that conjures songs anywhere from George Harrison to Brendan Benson.
Filed under: The Hit List You've heard it countless times: "We wouldn't be here if it weren't for you." The fans. And it's true. Rock stars are rock stars because we [...]

Call it a curveball, a surprise; Smith Westerns new LP, Dye It Blonde , out today on Fat Possum , is above all else an excruciatingly addictive sophomore release that exceeds all expectations built by the Chicago foursome's self-titled, debut album. With the expanse of Jeff Lynne and the Wah of George Harrison, Dye It Blonde comes off as a long-lost Traveling Wilburys project, as if the supergroup was formed a decade earlier than its actual inception, when most involved were near their perceived peaks. Best of luck taking this one off repeat. [...]

Ask any old school roadie or bouncer about "the good ole days" and they're sure to tell you one of a million ridiculous tales about rock n roll debauchery from days long gone. We've all heard the scathing Zeppelin fish one but there are an endless sea of crazy woppers that are too bizarre, too absurd and too damn funny to fade away. This series is dedicated to rockers old and new who aren't afraid to embrace the darker (or sillier) side of rock n roll. What better way to kick off the storytelling then with the most out of [...]
