(Volume 12 of Clifton’s Corner. Every other week on the blog Clifton Weaver, aka DJ Soft Touch, shares some of his favorite spins, old and new, in the worlds of soul, r&b, funk, psych and beyond.) Brandon Biondo and Forrest Ferguson, aka Coolrunnings , not only have the best band name around, they also do a mean cover. You wan't proof? Well check out their glistening cover of 'Rock Your Baby' by George McCrae below and prepare to get your disco on. The duo seem to have harnessed all the power McCrae has in that marvellous moustache above. Good work guys!
I love disco edits. You know, those swooshy, not-so-far deviant from the original, fixer-upper types that just incite slow moving and dedicated grooving, specifically all up on your boo piece. So in pops mysterioso Los Angelesan, Urulu , with a classy cut up of George McCrae 's Rock Your Baby . Someone's gonna get some upon hearing this. Forewarning to anyone in your general vicinity. In the meantime, or before, or [...]

George McCrae's "I Get Lifted" is one of the funkiest songs in existence. Don't believe me? Play the song in a real stereo and wait for that fat bass line to start humming. The "chk chk ahhh" background vocals aren't bad either. Furthermore, that is an amazing handlebar mustache he rocked. Amazing. George McCrae - "I Get Lifted"

Straight off the bat coming line drive, not crooked letter I, is the velvet rope sounds of Camp Lo, not to be confused with your campy hoes. late 90's everything was go, and these guys made their mark beyond their few singles by being included with Jay Z, De La, and Will Smith (the rapper). But whatever, Uptown Saturday Night weaves a world you wish you were living in (no 2 am Poppa Johns), and is well to listen to. Fingerbanger 1 : Camp Lo - Coolie High (don lowed) This [...]

Often it is said that the days of the dollar bin 12" are a distant memory within the confines of San Francisco. A golden era, when Funk's ugly cousin was sought after by only a handful of 90's house scene burnouts and a few collectors in search of gay scene nostalgia, and now of course you have bandwagon riding assholes such as myself and others in the mix, sucking the cities crates dry in between trips to buy organic groceries and $4 espresso drinks. And in many way I a agree with that sentiment, but to the contrary of that [...]

Hot on the heels of Rock the Boat by the Hues Corporation, George McCrae released this early disco track in 1974. This tune, which was written for McCrae by the the then unknown KC Casey and Richard Finch of KC and the Sunshine Band, went to the top of the charts in the US and the UK. The record came out before the invention of the 12" single, so the track was split up into two parts. One would assume that Francis Grasso and other DJs of the era used to extend the song by playing two [...]
