Good news and bad news regarding the George Strait concert at the Sprint Center this past Saturday. The good news is that, if you'd been unable to attend, it's been rescheduled for this Saturday, March 3.… [ Read more ] [ Subscribe to the comments on this story ]

At a Country Music Association awards show in the late 1970s, Ray Benson of Asleep At The Wheel showed up wearing a stetsons. He and the similarly behatted and long-haired Charlie Daniels and John Anderson were politely asked to remove their headgear. But as the rhinestones faded, the Stetson would become an obligatory sartorial item in the country fraternity. We might credit the mercifully brief Urban Cowboy movement — spearheaded by John Tavolta's Honky Tonk Night Fever movie — for popularising the cowboy hat, which had been sported by many people over the years but never was standard apparel in [...]
While Strait spends about half the album doling out sunbeams, the other half is all shadows and pain, firmly in the old-country tradition of hard luck songs. On one of the most artless cover photos of the year: An on-stage, earphone-sporting George Strait smiles, in a literal translation of the title of his 26th studio album, Here for a Good Time. The title track, which has already bounced its way up the radio chart, is an optimist's anthem that's also of the live-it-up, 'nothin' but a good time' variety. The album begins with a similarly upbeat message ("Love's Gonna [...]

The benefit concert for Central Texas wildfire victims October 17th has added George Strait to the list of headliners that will be performing. The benefit to help the people affected by the fires with their long-term issues and problems already includes some of the best in Texas music including Willie Nelson, Lyle Lovett, the Steve Miller Band, and the Dixie Chicks as well as Ray Benson and Asleep at the Wheel, Eric Johnson, and Shawn Colvin With a career spanning more than 30 years, George Strait has the most No. 1 singles of any artist in [...]

The iron man of country music George Strait's numbers are eye-popping: 30 years, 24 chart-topping albums, 57 chart-topping singles, 69 million records sold. 84 of his 89 radio singles have cracked the Top 10 – second only to Eddy Arnold (who notched 92!). It's a streak worthy of Lou Gehrig and Cal Ripkin Jr. One could wonder whether his fame has simply become self-sustaining, but the music industry is littered with acts who maintained their success for a few years or a decade, but few have sustained Strait's level of commercial success for thirty [...]

Despite a wave of bad reviews , Lil Wayne's Tha Carter IV holds the #1 position on Billboard 's Top 200 album chart for a second week (though the 219,000 copies moved marks a 77% drop in sales ). The only new album to debut in the Top 10 is George Strait's 39th studio offering Here For A Good Time (#3, 91,000), while The Beatles' compilation 1 returns at #4 (60,000) after a remastered edition made its digital debut. Round two of American Idol performance night saw the top 2 singers take on songs that were chosen for them by their idols. Scotty McCreery had George Strait pick "Check Yes or No". I thought it was kind of arrogant for the country singer to give Scotty his own song but Scotty did a good job on it. I found it a bit boring though. Carrie Underwood chose "Maybe It was Memphis" for Lauren Alaina. It was a better song choice but Lauren didn't do much to make the song her own. I also think she was trying to get [...]

George Strait earned himself his 83rd top ten song on Billboard's Country Songs chart with his new single "The Breath You Take". That makes the singer just 10 songs away from beating the record set by the late Eddy Arnold back in 1980. 10 songs almost sounds impossible but then again, so does 83. There's a big chance that he can do it. His accomplishments thus far have been ridiculously impressive! Congratulations to George and I wish him all the best in attaining glory. Do you think George can do it or is it a big long shot? I say [...]

My father loves himself some Reba, and growing up it was all Reba...all the time. We wore out her tapes, and then bought new ones. We watched a VHS of her best videos at least twice a week, and although I pretended not to be, I was totally into it. I still sing For My Broken Heart out of nowhere. It's forever in my head. I remember when my family went to see Reba in concert, and I stayed home. What was I thinking? I've been [...]
