I don't go out as often lately but the last time I hit up Rev it was grrreat! My friend was djing and she even played some Benny Benassi and Chris Brown, to which she commented "he beat up Rihanna but we won't think about that" because it's a pretty great song. We danced on broken glass and then cut ourselves trying to pry all of the glass from our damaged shoes. But when good music is playing and people are dancing and smiling and, let's face it, intoxicated it makes for a good romp out. I'm probably not [...]
Yep. You haven't just come across another blog that you thought was maamf but isn't. It still is maamf! Don't worry! We just changed out header design and did a few other little tweaks here and there. Comment away though...you could hate it and we could lose readers...and well...not to sound desperate or anything, but that would be really really bad and sad! Anyway, let us know. The old header is still up on our Facebook page ...so if you've forgotten and want to compare, then you can always check back there. Speaking of new [...]

Maybe the gem of all the performances at Parklife Sydney, the E.L.F. blew our minds. Daz of the E.L.F was once a member of one of Australia's favourite indie bands, Gerling, and this new direction rocks. not taking anything away from gerling. (death to the apple girls goes down as one of my fave all time tracks, and dust me selecta contains one of my aliases) Anyway, we love the E.L.F's track Rave Cave and here it is for your enjoyment The E.L.F - RAVE CAVE (highest recommendation) [...]

Spent a weekend with Darren Cross, our vertically challenged friend better know as E.L.F , or for those of you who remember the golden age of the late 90's sitting down in front of the TV on a Saturday morning watching Recovery you may remember Darren from three piece indie-dance pioneers Gerling . Oh how I wish I could get some of those shows on DVD or even dust of the old VHS player with some video, maybe I was just at that age but i get very nostalgic when I think about those days in front of [...]
Yeah I know it's early Sunday morning and these sort of antics should be kept for the night before but who could turn down a date with ace experimentalists Gerling (now hibernating in Antarctica, watch out for next years documentary 'March of the Gerlings') and her Kylieness. Back in 2001 when no one could get Kylie out of their heads it must have been a lavish coup to scoop her for a duet. But
I do hope we haven't heard the last of Sydney's Gerling. With frontman Darren Cross twiddling gamely with his new solo project the E.L.F. it seems that the trio's days could be numbered. Such a shame really because they straddled that near perfect divide between dance and indie. It all started so promisingly on their debut (a lost classic if ever there was one) 'Children of Telepathic

THE SHINS I finally got to see The Shins the other day. I loved it. It was kind of odd because it wasn't one of those shows that 'went off' and yet I came out thoroughly satisfied. They played a perfect mix of new and old and played it all brilliantly. Even if their drummer did happen to be asleep….. MP3: Turn A Square Quarter Acre I'm gonna do something out of the [...]
After a half-year spent in Sydney I concurred that for a city it's size it really had an underwhelming indie music output. Strange that as the metropolis gives off equal parts UK/US attitudes. There are glimmers of greatness to be had though, the trio Gerling being one of them. Not only do these madcaps and their seizure inducing website play the indie rock card to perfection but they are also
This Episode is to celebrate the stupidly fast sell-out of Big Day Out and is designed to make those who got tickets feel good about themselves and those who didn't cry. It's also the first time I've delved into area of 'specials' - in other words 'easy way outs' for me. It contains songs by the bands I recommend from the first announcement. I decided not to use The White Stripes or Franz Ferdinand because they're pretty well known already and I think everyone has they're minds made up whether they'll see them or not. And so here they are: [...]

Gerling seem to completely change direction with every record they release. They’re first two albums were largely house/electro music with voicing seemingly done by someone different each time creating the impression that they weren’t really an instrument-playing band. Along with the fact that they were never seen without their custom backpacks, I thought I knew who Gerling were. Well this image was shattered when I saw them live and they came out as a regular 3 piece band and started bashing out “punk music you could dance to†that everyone, myself included, loved. I later found the reason to be [...]
