Drew Harris is a humbled Victoria, BC college student who I'd like to think represents the shift in our culture's generational mindset. It's refreshing to hear his connection to the local community, not only through acquaintances but through the natural landscape that surrounds him. Outside of his degree in electrical engineering, Drew creates music under the alias Germany Germany and runs the website Distorted Disco . The site acts as a hub for his community of friends to release music and photography . I caught up with Drew for [...]

Making the likes of James Holden and Nathan Fake green with envy after intelligently squabbling over the task of who should use Ableton or Logic Pro, Germany Germany use all their humble roots in enriched DIY & analogue work ethic and patent this calling by not only releasing this LP as a digital album, but ALSO as a limited edition cassette tape too! Now that’s brave!! Inspired by The Postal Service heavily, Drew Harris from Germany Germany is in no doubt of his enthused root causes or musical beliefs which [...]

Germany Germany is the musical alias of Drew Harris, a Canadian musician/producer/keytarist, who started the project in December 2009. At the beginning Germany Germany was just a form of creative outlet and musical experimentation but, after he started sending out his music to blogs out of curiosity, things quickly got more serious for the aspiring artist. First there were a few very positive reviews on some influential blogs, then two #2 songs on The Hype Machine and now Germany Germany is fast becoming one of the artists to watch in 2011. Drawing influences from [...]

I don't know what it is about Adventures , the new album from Germany Germany (aka Victoria's Drew Harris), that qualifies it as Friday Fun material, but it's what I want to post on and it seems to suit today's mood rather well. We're heading into a long-weekend, normally a cause for much rejoicing, but it seems the mood is rather subdued in our part of the world as most of us are dreading the possibility of having one of our precious long weekends marred by all the rain we've been suffering through of late. [...]
Victoria's Germany Germany had me at Steffaloo. Seems there's a lot of projects, musicians, etc. featuring her on their tracks and they all kick major ass. So once I saw that Germany... [go to the website to read the rest of the article, download mp3s and more]
Adventures by Germany Germany Double the name, double the heart. This enterprising producer from Victoria is blowing me away with a laid back take on dance music (without becoming Chillwave). More specifically drawing influnce from The Postal Service, in a way a lot more creative than that Owl City bullshit. Replacing Gibbard with Steffaloo and going for the romantic jugular. Victoria, Canada based Drew Harris is the force behind Germany Germany, an artist whose age of just twenty years belies the quality and quantity of music he has produced. Dream pop and smooth synths are the standout features here, and with eight albums under his belt already and a load of remixes Harris has shown he is one to keep an eye and ear on. DIY is the philosophy behind his work, he has said of it, "it's not clean and spotless... it is how I want it to sound but that doesn't mean that it's always perfect. The DIY [...]
Starlight - The Supermen Lovers Last Friday I had an early morning interview with the Sunday Independent (Irish newspaper). Feature of some sort. Not too sure what it was for. Either way. Mighty stuff. Good to go. Wake up. Answer ... Continue reading

Canada's Germany Germany who we've written about before here is back with an excellent new album called 'Adventures' . He sent the new album our way for review and I am loving it! Been playing it non-stop! He is inspired by artists like Postal Service and DNTEL and I can see the influences, particularly for DNTEL. Dreamy, electro-pop goodness. Some instrumental, some with vocals, but all really good! He just started selling the 17 track album on his [...]

Adventures by Germany Germany Germany Germany 's Adventures is a nice mixed bag of dance tracks that all come from the creative psyche of one man. An explanation from the horse's mouth: Adventures nearly sums up all that is Germany Germany. The past synth-pop, electro, ambient, etc. sounds have all been combined into 2 sides, 17 songs, 60 minutes. Stream the entire thing above, and check out the album art below:

When you are in the depths of Winter it can feel as if Spring will never arrive, and yet here we are, with the weather growing warmer, the days becoming longer and the skies often seeming bluer. We're riding bicycles through city streets, planning camping trips with friends, drinking beers while watching baseball games and going on long hikes through the hills. It's a good time of year. A lot of the music that I've been obsessing over speaks to the change in the season too. By and large these aren't songs for a day at a beach, which isn't [...]
It's been a few months of trumpeting and touting Adventures --- the new and first physical release from Victoria's Germany Germany. After a couple of absolutely stellar singles, a beautiful video... Listen At BIRP!

Having listened to and appreciated Germany Germany for countless releases and having enjoyed some of our more popular days on the blog because of him (including the post he wrote yesterday which previews 5 tracks from the new album) it is hugely exciting that he has now released his latest full length Adventures . A day early no less. Adventures by Germany Germany Now we never talk about albums really on this blog and that is a great shame because there is so [...]
Drew Harris is Germany Germany, an act that even Harris himself is quick to draw parallels to with The Postal Service (or, if you really wanted to go there, Owl City). He’s gearing up for the release of a new full-length, Adventures , this Sunday, and teasing it with five free cuts for download on his SoundCloud page . Germany Germany may be a new name to me, but the project started up in 2009, and Harris impressively managed to crank out four records since then. The Postal Service’s influence is felt strongly across the board, so much [...]

You probably don't need me to extol the virtues of hummus so I'll simply say, never have beans tasted so amazing. What you might not realize is that hummus is also wonderful when it is baked into a crusty little patty and shoved, one on top of another, inside a pita. It is sort of like Dostoyevski's onion or one of those hidden Russian dolls. Too bad every condiment doesn't get better when it's baked. I could see myself celebrating birthdays with mustard and barbecue cakes rather than one of those crappy vanilla on vanilla sugar plunkers. [...]
Electrogaze. A term that just rolls off the tongue, no? Combining the funky synths and beats of electro house with the euphoric echoes of shoegaze might be the most brilliant thing ever. And the amount of sheer bliss this song offers gives riled up for the upcoming album by Germany Germany . Drew Harris, still a student in Canada, promises an aural experience that represents the production process of analog photography: an audible experimentation that takes risks, tries new things, and isn’t afraid to make mistakes. An amalgam of genres — which aren’t limited to ambient, electro, [...]
