A couple of months ago, we posted two new songs from the former Get Him Eat Him frontman Matt LeMay. Now, LeMay has another digital single out with a couple of more new songs, "Compare And Contrast" and "By Half." Like "A Portrait Of The Man" and "What Would Change," they're both sharply melodic power-pop jams, the kind that not too many people make anymore. Give them a listen below. Read More...

Matt LeMay is the former frontman of the New York indie band Get Him Eat Him; he's also a music critic and a guy I know a little bit. LeMay has just released his first single, and Nick Sylvester, Mr. Dream's drummer and a great friend of mine, recorded it alongside LeMay. Both of the songs on the single are streaming below. "A Portrait Of The Man" is a jumpy, Ted Leo-esque power-pop song, and "What Would Change" is a tender, slowed-down joint. Both songs are totally good. Read More...

Get Him Eat Him - The Luckiest Guy On The Lower East Side [The Magnetic Fields]

The second album in my chronological look back at the decade in music is one that I had overlooked at first as the album was originally released in 1999. However, 69 Love Songs by the Magnetic Fields was only released in the British Isles in the middle of 2000. I had never heard of the band or their music until I read a feature-length interview with the main man behind the band in a Sunday newspaper magazine supplement. I was so intrigued by the concept of the album that I shelled out around €20 for it a little bit later. [...]

Here is this week's collection, which starts off upbeat then gets mellower and mellower. Like I said last Sunday, I’m gonna keep searching around for more, although I can't imagine that there are many more out there that I haven't found. Part Four will be here next Sunday, with Part Five logically following the Sunday after that. Part Six would be up to you: if you’ve ever recorded a Magnetic Fields cover and think it warrants being part of this feature, send it my way . Enjoy: 1) Get Him Eat Him - The Luckiest [...]
As reported yesterday , Get Him Eat Him , the band led by Pitchfork's Matt LeMay, who released two fine records on Absolutely Kosher, are no more. They're playing their final show tomorrow night with Kleenex Girl Wonder at Union Hall in Brooklyn, and they've released a final EP called The Throat Is Bent. Appropriately enough, the final track on that EP is called "Ancient History" and it's a nice summary of everything this band did [...]

Swan Lake, the Canadian power trio of Daniel Bejar (New Pornographers, Destroyer), Spencer Krug (Wolf Parade, Sunset Rubdown), and Carey Mercer (Frog Eyes, Blackout Beach), are releasing their second album Enemy Mine at the end of March (3/24, Jagjaguwar ). It's an amazing collection that opens with the epic "Spanish Gold, 2044," our vote for one of the best single tracks, 2009. We caught up with the song's singer/writer Carey Mercer, who told us this among other things: "Spanish Gold 2044" is both a reference to the "Kokomo"-like Matthew McConaughey-style back-ups that I begged Dan [...]

It seems every time we base a mini mix on artists who happen to be playing a show that day, it also just happens to fall on a Thursday....coincidence? Maybe, but probably not. Thursday just always seems to bring it musically, and this week is no exception; as always, there's LOTS going on tonight. To help your decision-making process, consider our latest mini-mix below and choose your own adventure.... 1. "Breaking It Up" (Punks Jump Up Remix) - Lykke Li (@ (le) [...]

For those of you who've been digging into ARMS' new full-length (the fantastic Kids Aflame ), it's welcome news that Mr. Todd Goldstein will be playing a kick-ass concert in Brooklyn on the 29th. At the show, Todd will introduce us all to the new ARMS band: composed of members of the Harlem Shakes , Frances , and Get Him Eat Him . If you're anywhere near New York, come check out this rare opportunity to see ARMS live, where [...]

Cadence Weapon at the Echo / photo by David Greenwald It's no secret that most rock critics are also failed musicians. Even Lester Bangs made some records . But recently, a number of Pitchfork scribes have found second careers in bona fide bands. Here, we rank them along with the no doubt conflict of interest-free scores dropped on them by the 'Fork itself. Remember, 7.0 means never having to say you're sorry. 1. Cadence Weapon Roland Pemberton III, an ousted P4ker dumped by the [...]

Shows on a Monday? Yep...and good ones too. Down in VA you can catch Middle Distance Runner, Ungdomskulen, and Lady In The Radiator at Jammin' Java . At Johnny Brenda's in Philly you might want to consider chcking out Mahjongg, Get Him Eat Him, and RunRunner. Finally at the Red and the Black in DC there's a great one in The Shackeltons, Raise Up Roofbeams, and Frenemies. Good times. mp3: Middle Distance Runner - That's A Lie --> website --> buy [...]

So you're looking for something Halloween-related, right? Last year I came up with this "everybody's doing it" Halloween mix, that had artists or song titles with scary names. It seemed pretty unoriginal at the time, but I was too lazy to come up with a more original idea. This year, that same laziness is still present, just slightly less so. You're once again getting a handful of songs, only this time they're all from 2007. Half of them are just genuinely scary songs that give me nightmares, and the other half are songs that have scary titles but don't sound [...]

I had an interesting conversation with a comrade a day ago about Zach Condon's band Beirut. We had reached the same conclusion: depending on the day Beirut is either the most genius thing you've ever heard or the most boring. It's hard not to be a one-trick pony when you're an indie band who plays gypsy-tinged Baltic folk music, so I can't blame the band of young lads. Either way, today is one of those days where it's genius to my ears: the timbre of ukulele, the sun-kissed trumpets, Condon's wavering and world-worn vibrato it's just [...]

Providence, RI "2x2" Get Him Eat Him on MySpace Get Him Eat Him on The Hype Machine

Get Him Eat Him is one of those bands I nearly refused to listen to because of their ridiculous name, and man was that a foolish thing to ALMOST have done. Very seldom does a song line the walls of my brain and envelop my subconsciousness like this one has. The most unruly synths you will ever hear bouncing off one of the funnest melodies and guitar lines I have heard all summer and the end product is something so magically sunny it's almost not right to listen to this song unless you're having fun. [...]
Pak hem en eet hem op! Zo heet deze band, in het Engels Get Him Eat Him.Zeker geen normale naam. Zoals j...
