I threw a few Qs at Benson - a young DJ/Producer based in Melbourne Australia, doing some wicked things. Benson's work has been signed to such labels as Sweat It Out, Jump To This, Vicious, Ministry Of Sound, One Love, Bakehaus, OMG!, Sony BMG, Suckmusic, Trouble Makers, and Fanatic. He's 22 years old. PBJ: Tell us about when and how you got into producing. B: I had been DJing for about 2 years before I decided that I would get into production. I was finding it hard to get gigs in the area I was living [...]

Shaolin AKA Jacob Carkeet has dropped a tight remix of the sassy, latin flavoured house getup "Bump Shake Whine" (Jump To This) by Canberra kin and indie house music producer Get Stellar. We asked Shaolin a few Qs about being a producer in the capital and the opportunities that it has brought him. PJB: Tell us about when and how you got into producing. S: I first started producing about 2 years ago now, I pretty much got into it all courtesy to the Peking DuK boys. I bought Reuben's old Macbook off him which had Reason [...]
Well, it’s been a while since we heard anything from the Australian Get Stellar , it seems a bit has changes sine we last took notice, including the act being stripped down to a solo project and a more Housey sound taken on board. His new single ‘My Bassline’ showcases the fact that this isn’t the Get Stellar of ‘This Moment’. ‘My Bassline’ is a sample heavy, filtered slab of Disco House. Its quite a minimal track, but effective. The sweeping filtered riff and the titular bassline serve as the central elements of a track with an [...]
Australian producer Ashley Feraude A.K.A. Magnifik has just released his ‘Behaving Badly’ single and it’s backed up by some stellar reMixes. The first of which, coincidentally, comes from awesome fellow Aussies, the Indie-Disco outfit Get Stellar , who we haven’t heard from in a while, who turn in a classy piece of synth-Funk fuelled Electro with a slightly 90’s edge to it. A proper dancefloor starter. Nightriders bring a deep Disco groove to the table with their mix, designed for chilled summer nights. Defiantly a reMix bundle worth investing in. [...]

Australian producer/dj/collaborator Ashley Feraude has had his Magnifik project swinging in 2011, including the unveiling of a live performance at Canberra's Warehouse Festival (Deadmau5, Skrillex, Bag Raiders, Flight Facilities + more). Most recent has been the release of his "Behaving Badly" EP on Yes Yes Records , featuring remixes by Nightriders , Get Stellar , Peking Duk , Team Wing , and Diamond Lights . The original is a minimal, electronic soundscape that tells a story of its own, even without the lyrics. This is what really gets [...]

SOUND: house, west coast flavour. BEST PLAYED: at a speakeasy. An enjoyable remix from my man Get Stellar ! Constantly moving forward with his skills and sound, Get Stellar has produced a groovy Chicago house vibe for Style by Canberra electro playboys, Peking Duk . The track features on the Duk's Style EP via Tap'd Out Records , a new local development label. Listen and download via the Soundcloud player: Listen and download the [...]

Gigamesh has been pumping out disco bootlegs and remixes since his Lykke Li masterpiece was unleashed to the blogosphere in 2008. Danny Daze has been voted Miami's best club DJ three times with deep and tech releases on Nervous, Plant and Disca Bueno records to name a few (we posted this tasty remix last week). Joe Maz in new to the game but already has a release on Nervous and many choice bootlegs on his cloud . It comes as no surprise then that when these three Miamians [...]

We posted one of G.L.O.V.E.S ' latest remixes in the post with our interview with him a couple of weeks ago; the one of SGF-1 's "Castor Sugar". We thought we'd just write a few words about the rest of the release. SFG stands for Super Galactic Funk and they're a duo from Kobe, Japan, consisting of Poon-Yu Khut and Percy Jones III. They make funky R'n'B with a disco touch, and they're new EP is out now on Melbourne label Lightspeed Recordings with remix support from Astrolabe and Get Stellar [...]

DJ/Producer Duncan DCUP's self-described "Nu-Boogie" style is a stark contrast to the soulless electro that has engulfed the club scene this year. Based in Sydney, DCUP has been instrumental in crafting what is now known as the Australian sound , a more funky and musical approach to dance production shared by comrades like GLOVES and Cassian . "To me, Disco preceded House music, and is built mainly around the driving 4/4 beat of the kick drum. Boogie is more of a lovechild of Disco and Funk, focusing on a kick, clap combo, [...]

SGF-1 (Super Galactic Funk) is their name, and I'm pretty sure you can figure out what members Poony-K & PJ3 are up to. Take the best dance music of the 702s and 802s, mix it up with some jazz and electro, all with production work of today and you get these incredibly funky songs with hooks that get you from the beginning. SGF1 have released their frist single, "Castor Sugar " , wich features some really cool remixes from G.L.O.V.E.S., Get Stellar and Astrolabe. Check out their funk-disconess below and make sure to pick up the EP which was release last [...]

Based in Japan, SGF-1 (Super Galactic Funk) is saxophonist-turned-music composer/producer Poony-K and Berklee College of Music graduate with jazz-piano training Percy Jones III. Unashamedly drawing inspiration from the retrospective dance music of the 70's and 80's, SGF-1 produces music that captures the spirit & energy of 70's/80's jazz, funk & electro. Their first release is 'Castor Sugar' EP, out now on Lightspeed Recordings. The EP comes with remixes by the likes of Gloves, Get Stellar & Astrolabe. Super! Castor Sugar (GLOVES/G.L.O.V.E.S. Remix) by [...]

Australian-born-Chinese-electr onic-disco-jazz-funk-hi-there producer Poony-K and African American jazz pianist graduate Percy Jones III are the unlikely duo that make up SGF-1 (Super Galactic Funk). Having met in a bar in Kobe, Japan, the pair joined forces, added their own musical styles and forged together a surprisingly smooth, free flowing and highly addictive musical entity. Their first release 'Castor Sugar' is a funky, disco explosion that will draw you in and not let you go. The EP comes with some fantastic remixes from G.L.O.V.E.S , Get Stellar and Astrolabe and two delicious originals. [...]

In early 2009 the pioneering yacht-house band Damn Arms split and GLOVES was born, the former keyboardist and co-vocalist Yama Indra's solo moniker. Now one of the hottest producer/DJs in the country, GLOVES has remixed Aussie greats Miami Horror, Matt Van Schie and (most recently) Bag Raiders to name a few. But there's more than just remixing, GLOVES released his debut original P.Y.X. on the Bang Gang 123 label mid last year and hype has already started for his follow up release due this summer. It's no surprise Yama has just been [...]

Yama Indra Hondow-Wellby is the former front-man of the now defunct band Damn Arms , and is now producing wonderful music under the name G.L.O.V.E.S . The Australian nu disco maestro has been one of our favourite producers for quite a while, so today we're really proud to present an exclusive interview with him. Let's cut to the chase! Hello Yama Indra, tell us what you’ve been up to lately! Today I had a photo shoot, which I worked on in collaboration with my close friend Chris Hill of KROZM [...]
This post is kind of a reunion tour for me. Beautiful original and remix work below. The first track is a gorgeous edit of Indestructible by Robyn. I have been really jamming the remixes (this and this) the crew here at The Stay Spun have been sharing with you, but this one really has my ... Read more

Get Stellar the now one man show led by Simon Johnson a previous Adelaidian now Canberrian (who has featured on these pages before) has a new single out on a uk house/techno label AudioJunkie. Lending a hand.. or voice to the process is a local Adelaide babe by the name of Gabrielle Hyde helping accent the intuitively struck synths and smoothly processed beats. I really can't pick a favourite from the two with each giving me an overall happy numb feeling! Get Stellar - The Spin feat. Gabrielle Hyde [...]

Just stumbled upon this nice little bootleg/edit of Moloko's 1999 hit Sing It Back . It's from a US DJ/producer called Zev who has a few releases and remixes out on the Wolf + Lamb label. The mix has a minimal, tribal house sound that works in perfectly with Roselyn Murphy's strong and familiar vocals (similar feel to Dennis Ferrer's recent chart topper Hey Hey ). Luke Million is the keyboard player from aussie three-piece disco band The Swiss , known for their hit instrumental jam Bubble Bath . He's just released an EP on Sydney label Future Classic (same label that put out Vote Bowie For President from Sidwho , bass player for The Swiss). As the name suggests, Italo Journey is 100% synthetic with an 80s euro sound. Part I runs a hypnotic four-note bass line through the entire track with layer upon layer of leads progressively stacked on top. Part II has a similar vibe [...]
