Do you live in NYC or Brooklyn? If so, tonight is your lucky night (or unlucky night if you don't). If you've been following TBT over the past couple months you will have noticed that we've acquired new writers from all over North America and even Europe. One of those writers is our friend Andrew over at Dingus Music , who has brought you an array of DIY artists including Ghost Pal , possibly the best live act in New York City. Tonight the Dingus crew is partnering up [...]

I've written about Oliver Ignatius before, whether it was about his involvement in Hysterics or his current project Ghost Pal. Well, he's part of an experimental recording studio in Brooklyn called Mama Coco's Funky Kitchen (great name, I know). The studio recently put out a compilation of their artists' work, which you can hear below. This should be great to just throw on and space out to for a bit if you have the time. If you enjoy it, the good news is that there's another compilation on the way. I'll be sure to tell you about it as [...]

A true human jukebox if there ever was one, songwriter/producer Oliver Ignatius is the mastermind behind the ever eclectic Ghost Pal. The project starts with a rock 'n' roll template and finds strength with deep roots in old school soul and R&B. Things aren't textbook here, though, as elements of psychedelia, funk, and garage rock all find their way into the fold. Not only is Ignatius a prolific songwriter and bandleader, he also runs Mama Coco's Funky Kitchen where he engineers and produces records, too. Simon recently had the chance to interview the busy Ignatius about everything from Ghost Pal [...]

When we set out to make these lists at the end of each year, we usually try to include tracks that aren't on the Best of Albums List to narrow down the choices. This year we took a more honest approach, but it was terrible to cut 365 days worth of songs down to a mere 25 tracks. We changed them up until the last possible minute, driving ourselves, our loved ones, and each other crazy with our "what if..."s. In the end, though, these are the songs that made us hit repeat, and carried us [...]

My friend Oliver Ignatius is the supremely talented gentleman behind the Brooklyn based superband Ghost Pal , a collective of awesome people who make funky, jangly indie pop that compels the listener to get up and shake whatever they've got. Late last month they released "Get Thee Gone," a rockin' number about which Oliver says, This is the first single released from the sessions for the Ghost Pal EP, Nathan Jones is Dead . However, it will not be on the EP. As usual, it is about the devil. This [...]

Walk the Brooklyn nightlife and you'd think the days of grandiose bands boasting lush arrangements were over. The tiring effect of electronic acts blasting technology based beats secures the scene's repetition and future death. But, manage to stumble upon the right venue, on the right night, and you might just hear a slice of the potential revival. Oliver Ignatius, frontman of Brooklyn based Ghost Pal (ghostpal.bandcamp.com) , knows he's up against the wall. Ignatius has been fueling the aesthetic for years, first [...]
The word of the day is "relaxation". Lets travel on that lonesome road with nothing but horizon to the left and right. Hard to do in the midst of the city, but a set of high quality... [go to the website to read the rest of the article, download mp3s and more]

And while we're in a Fleet Foxes kind of mood here is someone who is playing around their backyard while they produce the goods indoors. Ghost Pal is Oliver Ignatius and under that guise he conspires to produce a classic pop sound. His airs have an altogether familiar ring to them but never sound tired or contrived. And I know all this without having to shed a penny because the spirit of Ghost Pal levitates for free on his bandcamp site. Ghost Pal is never less than pleasant and never more than enough. KD [...]
