★★★★☆ Put Ghost Story on in the background and it couldn't be anything other than a chillout album. On titles alone, "Open Your Eyes," "New Shade of Blue" and "Close Your Eyes" have Blue Fields offering pro-couch encouragement. The likes of "Seven x Seven" and "Eternal Fields" should make ambient compilations the world over; not necessarily through quality of content, but because all the elements presented make it undeniable. Echoing acoustic flecks, breathy swirls and swirling breaths, keys that barely keep their eyes open, hugs of deep house - it's all very content and [...]

Hear The Track HereIf there is one image that sums up the modern state of musical stagecraft, it has to be the pointed finger. Back in the murky past, pop musicians had to make funny faces all the time to get noticed, or cavort shamelessly with hussies replete with drink and drugs, throw things out of hotel windows. Things like furniture TV's and luxury cars I mean, not the hussies or the drugs
We're going to SXSW on someone else's dime next week. It's going to be an inverted version of Eurotrip - four British misfits go to America with hilarious consequences and a hundred million weed related gags!

"A Place for Dead Roads" by Other Passengers which clocks in at 8:41. Tomorrow is Halloween. The time for spooks and ghouls and ghastly tales of the macabre and tricks and treats. In the spirit of the holiday I'd like to share a story with you. It's my story, it is an entirely true story. In fact, the events that occurred are more accurately retold in this particular story than in many of the other true life tales I've told in the 8+ series. This is a true, honest, ghost story. As for [...]

There's apparantly a fashion show tonight (4/19) at The Croc. I'm not completely clear on what makes it an Indie Rock Fashion Show, but that's how it's billed. So, either that means there are indie rock people in the fashion show, or it's a fashion show that sleeps on floors while touring and works at a coffee shop to pay the bills. :) In either case, if you head down there you'll be able to hear two good bands: Siberian and Ghost Stories. Here are some mp3s to sample and to use [...]

1. Illinois - Alone Again - This shifty little number is right at home with a lot of the best indie rock of recent memory. Catchy, hooky, punchy, bumpbumpbumpy. [from What the Hell Do I Know? | buy ] 2. Ghoststories - Secret Life of the Union, Pt 1 - I like how this one builds from whispery spidery webs to a nice little snare-driven crescendo. It reminds me of the new Cloud Cult record, but slightly less weird. Cool album art, too. [from Quixoticism | [...]

* Ghost Stories-The Upper Ten/The Lower Five

I tried doing this last year but gave up after getting a C&D for a contraband file. C'est la vie du blogeur , I guess. I've been more careful about what I share, but even this list isn't the way I would want it. For one, LCD Soundsystem should really have something here and I'd rather post a different Andrew Bird track. 1. Kiss Kiss - Machines [mp3] One of the newest bands I'm most excited about is Kiss Kiss thanks to their solid debut Reality Vs. The Optimist. [...]

A Sonic Boom In-Store performance with Ghost Stories On a whim I decided to go down to Sonic Boom on Saturday. I also needed to pickup a copy of the Shins album and their myspace said they were having an in-store for this band Ghost Stories who I had looked up a while back and had not really found anything on, so I moved on and thought about other bands instead. Little did I know that Ghost Stories was a side project of Ron Lewis of the Fruit Bats that also includes Jonathan [...]
As a kid there was no book more frightening than Alvin Schwartz's Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark , with its spooky stories and pee-your-pants scary illustrations. Fortunately, Ron Lewis' Ghost Stories are much more bedroom pop ruminations than terrifying campfire tales. In fact, they're downright soothing. Surprisingly complex for a home recording, Quixoticism is at its best when, as on "The Upper Ten/The Lower Five," it sounds like it might veer off the straightforward pop path at any moment, only to chug ahead happily. This isn't an album to gush about [...]
Seattle-based musician Ron Lewis goes by the name Ghost Stories for his musical explorations, which all take place in his bedroom. Ghost Stories' Quixoticism , which comes out on Jan. 23, is full of scruffy singalongs that remind us of the best moments of the Elephant 6 collective's late-'90s heyday. Like all the finest home-crafted pop, Quixoticism 's strength lies in the details; the creeping "la la"s in "You Wear It Like A Window," the strains of a string section lurking underneath "The Nettles In Your Mouth." Ghost Stories - You Wear [...]

Catacombs - Ghost Stories The Upper Ten/The Lower Five - Ghost Stories Five years ago, the twisty, eccentric pop of The Shins' Oh, Inverted World dug warrens in my brain, built bunks and took up residence. But the band lost me with Chutes Too Narrow and, based on what I've heard of the forthcoming effort, I'm not finding my way [...]

Ghost Stories is the musical alias for Ron Lewis, a well-travelled musician based out of Seattle who has played with the likes of Colin Meloy, the Joggers, and the Dismemberment Plan. Lewis' sound is driven by soft and melodic folk, with a few examples of contemporary experimentation (whether it be key-based synth or distortion) making up memorable and often haunting songs. This would make Ghost Stories such an ideal name for the project, with songs that stay etched in your mind after several listens, despite the diverse and lengthy structures. Lewis tells his tales over a voice that does [...]
It's hard to consistently find bands to be passionate about. The way the blogosphere works makes it important to jump on a band early, but forces you to move on just as fast. Sure you may love the record, but you can't post about the album 5 times. I love the National 's Alligator and listen to it at least once a week, but over a year later, does anyone still care? Probably not (and with good reason). The problem with this mentality is you are forced to praise a band after a few [...]
Dallas 21, Indianapolis 14 I don't know what is the bigger story, the Colts losing or McNabb tearing his ACL, but since I'm a homer, I'll start with the Colts. Five turnovers in the first quarter alone. This game started sloppy and got ugly. Tony Romo, when it mattered, was simply the better quarterback. Heck, he's been the best QB in the league since he was named the starter. How did this
