The past two years I've made mixes to celebrate the joys of friend love (and beautiful music of course), and I'm at it again. This was meant to come to you on Valentine's Day and "real life" pushed it back, but I think the theme is timeless. This is just a little token to thank you for being with us on this journey, and always remember, Danger Loves You. Tracklist: Com Truise - "Datebar" [...]

Friends - My Boo [Ghost Town DJ's] was the flipside to the Friends single I'm His Girl released on October 31st by Lucky Number Music .
I've just arrived home from spending the weekend in New York City for the annual CMJ Music Marathon, which I describe as the NYC version of SXSW (not that I'd been to either before). I wasn't originally planning on partaking in this wonderful event. You see, I wanted to go, but an all day client meeting that I couldn't miss last Friday at the day job prevented me from attending. But when that meeting got cancelled earlier in the week, I started to wonder if there was anything keeping me back anymore. Since I'd never once been spontaneous inread [...]

Ghost Town DJs - My Boo (Balam Acab Remix) One of my FAVE classics remixed by 20 yr old Pennsylvania native Alec Koone aka BALAM ACAB . Who is mostly known for his witch haus sounds. I should mention he got a 8.2 review on PITCHFORK for his latest album "WANDER / WONDER". He's about to go on tour in the U.S., sadly no Canadian dates yet. Posted by Matea
Last year, Tri Angle introduced the world to BALAM ACAB (aka Alec Koone), & his otherworldly, secretive sound of submerged bass & phantom vocal harmonies, with the release of his... **Summary** Go to website for downloads, videos & more.
It's the return of Remixtape , the feature where I listen to a tremendous amount of shitty blog-bait "X Remixes Y" tracks and weed out those worth your weed-out. (Right?) Volume 6 opens with this month's undisputed champion of tracks bearing Remix in their title: the indomitable "Huzzah!" featuring a fierce set of relatively underground rappers (El-P, Despot, Danny Brown, some band Das Racist), from Tom's inaugural Mixtape Of The Week by Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire . Also involved: Remixtape vets Holy Other, Star Slinger, How To Dress Well, and also Balam Acab casting syrupy spells on '90s R&B [...]

The resurgence of 90's RnB continues as Friends take on the 1996 classic 'My Boo' by Ghost Town DJ's (the b-side to their forthcoming single 'I'm His Girl'). About a month ago Balam Acab remixed the original, adding his usual 'dark' quality to the affair, but Friends have decided to be more faithful to the original, adding only very subtle twists and turns. This will probably serve as a nice trip down memory lane for people of a certain age, though if you are one of the youngsters that [...]

It's a nice moment for "My Boo" redos. Last month Balam Acab pitched "My Boo" through his distended down-tempo filter, giving the upbeat bass music classic a strange spectral wobble. Today, Ghost Town DJ's are honored via MP3 by Friends, as the b-side to the band's recently posted single " I'm His Girl ." The track make a lot of sense in Friends hands; its clearly been a blueprint for the group. The locale's shifted, from Ghost Town's '90s Miami club to Friends' new millennial Bushwick culture-mash, but the attitude's analogous - all vibrant atmosphere and weird underbelly, [...]

Los Angeles's Superhumanoids have already been very giving to Quit Mumbling , and for that, we are thankful. Today, they've handed over a new mixtape for us to premier. Here's Summer Mix: 2 , the second half of a two part music series for partying under the sun. I'd go ahead and hype up the amazing tracklist myself, but I'll leave it to singer Cameron Parkins to do that: I've always been intrigued by dance music and clubs, this summer has been a lesson in digging in on that world of music. Music that [...]

Continuing the trend for taking '90s R&B and dragging it through a dark cave, Balam Acab twists Ghosttown DJ's 'My Boo' into something ghostly, atmospheric and high-pitched. See also Nicolas Jaar's recent work . Download: My Boo (BALAM ACAB Remix) - Ghost Town DJ's by BALAM ACAB

Growing up in the '90s, I had like this weird love for shit that I typically would have hated. Most of the time, it was the most absurd R&B/soul music, too, like Toni Braxton, R. Kelly, Keith Sweat, Boyz II Men, Ghost Town DJ's, and the like. I know most of those acts are go-to guilty pleasures for most people, but they were like the uber guilty pleasures for me. While I was steady blasting Rage Against the Machine and other angsty alt. rock staples, I was playing those acts on the low. So it's with that in [...]
You know what makes corny '90s R&B jams better than you remember? Remixes by artists who love that type of music but happen to do it better than their influences. OK, I shouldn't be hating on Ghost Town DJ's, but I just revisited their biggest hit, "My Boo," and couldn't help but feel a wave of cheese wash over me. Alec Koone, aka Balam Acab, has pretty much removed the cheese factor from the track and made it his own with layers of dreamy haze and reverb. Anyone else down with an R&B covers project from Balam Acab? We definitely [...]

Balam Acab posted up this remix of Ghost Town DJs 'My Boo' to celebrate the one year anniversary of Tri-Angle Records. MP3: Ghost Town DJs 'My Boo' (Balam Acab Remix) And remind yourself of the original... More at tri-anglerecords.com .

'My Boo' by Ghost Town DJ's was a blazing summer hit back in the day. A 90s classic if you will. Well thanks to Balam Acab, the track has been given a 2011 makeover. The vintage RnB vocals have now been paired with a thudding bass, and then tempo has been taken down a peg or two. It's hard not to enjoy this. It really is.

Yesterday, the steadily on-point LDN-based label Tri Angle turned one-year old . Take this is as the unofficial celebratory MP3, from Balam Acab - one of the roster's finest mixers of the languid, haunting, and pretty - as the 21-year-old does all of those things to the decidedly not languid nor haunting (but certainly pretty) uptempo bass music classic "My Boo." The pulse gets pulled down and the vocals are pitched up, Balam's spectral wobble and celestial chiming fill in the spaces - it becomes ghostly in a way Ghost Town DJ's were only in name. Grab: [...]
