It's now August, which means new artists for the Hot Freaks! Residency at the Mohawk . The artists being featured this month are Denton's Ghosthustler and Austin's own Shapes Have Fangs . Last night it was Ghosthustler's turn to take the stage at the Mohawk .
I'll start by apologizing to non-Dallas readers - this post is largely about local music, although anyone with an alternative weekly run by Village Voice/New Times Media will probably understand. This Saturday is the Dallas Observer Music Awards Showcase , with the actual "Ceremony" coming next week. They site Chromeo and the Junior Boys amongst their influences, and it's not hard to notice some additional relatives in common with 120 Days. It's extremely rare that we get this psyched about a North Texas band, especially when the dudes have never played a live show and we're forming our opinion on the promise of a couple of myspace tracks.
