We don't always post fan-submitted tracks, but when we do, MAN are they awesome! This track was provided to us by the Long Island Electronic Rock duo, Aiur . "Euphoria", has a whole slew of incredible facets. When I first saw the submission, I was so impressed by the efforts that went into the message that I HAD to listen to the track. Up-and-coming artists that want to be featured on the J, take note; a little effort goes a long way! In regards to the track, the band's influences, from around the music spectrum, peek through [...]

Ghostland Observatory All photos by Victoria Holt On Friday, October 19, I went down to the Showbox SoDo for what promised to be the biggest show I'd see at City Arts Fest: Ghostland Observatory . Technically, this was my second time seeing them, as I was at their performance at the 2011 Capitol Hill Block Party. But that time, I was so far back in the crowd, I couldn't actually see them, or really appreciate the performance; I was too detached. This time, the immediacy of the experience made a huge [...]
Ghostland Observatory Warehouse Live October 25, 2012 Lasers. Costumes. Queen-like flights of fancy. Ominous, incredibly sassy beats. Lasers. A steadfast, almost militant, devotion to shaking y... Continue reading "Last Night: Ghostland Observatory at Warehouse Live" >

Halloween is right around the corner, and so is the annual Ghostland Observatory show for Halloween weekend in Dallas! For the past several years, the Austin dance rock duo have been the main act at the Palladium Ballroom, the legendary and iconic venue formerly known as Gilley's. It has been the best Halloween party around without question, and this year will be the same. Imagine as the lights, sounds, and costumes that will come together, overwhelming you with delight! Music Emissions is giving two lucky fans the chance to experience this live this Saturday, October [...]

It may have turned for the worse outside, but there's still plenty to see inside. City Arts Fest dominates most of the schedule with an amazing week of music ahead in almost every venue in town. It's a busy week with a ton of great choices for everyone. On Monday night Beth Orton sets the bar high for the week with a highly anticipated performance at Showbox at the Market. On Tuesday, Grimes, Elite Gymnastic , and Myths are at Neumos, Crocodiles and The Soft Pack are at Crocodile, and [...]

For its inaugural year, Atlanta's Counter.Point Music Festival reeled in around 18,000 festivalgoers, which included not only hometown festivalgoers but outsiders from Chicago, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, and even Cape Town, South Africa. So, yeah, pretty much a success. Not like it was hard, though. Headed by Skrillex, Pretty Lights, Avicii, Bassnectar, and Steve Angello, and working off an undercard that included ATL's own Big Boi, Big Gigantic, Atmosphere, MiMosa, and Wale, the whole thing had success scribbled all over it. Truth: Electronic festivals are a dime a dozen these days, but fans are schilling out far more than [...]

Are you one of the unlucky few who did not get tickets to the sold out Kaskade Freaks of Nature Tour at Staples Center this Friday? Or are you like me and are trying to get as far as humanely possible from the 20,000 screaming fans who are about to invade downtown LA? Either way I have great news, What the Festival?! is taking place this weekend (July 27-29) in Oregon and it is going to be way better than anything going on in Los Angeles this weekend. What the Festival?! takes place in the gorgeous [...]

“Oh my GOD!!” were the first words that I uttered upon entering the Sherwood area of Electric Forest. This became a recurring theme amongst my friends and I as we wandered around what we all knew would soon become one of our favorite music festivals. Photo by Morgan Mullin The significance of this overture may be lost upon the casual reader, so let me emphasize that my friends and I are seasoned festivalgoers. We have been to most of the major festivals in the United States: Coachella, SXSW, Bonnaroo, Ultra, [...]
The inaugural CounterPoint Music & Arts Festival in Atlanta, Georgia has added another round of artists to their already boisterous 50+ performer lineup. Porter Robinson, Conspirator, Up Until Now ft. David Murphy of STS9, Adventure Club, Gardens & Villa, Run DMT, Dr. Fameus and more all round out the bill, solidifying the weekend of September [...]

As a consummate city dweller, my second annual trip to Electric Forest was shrouded in equal parts fear and hysteria. City festivals have their major perks, like the ability to eat lunch in a nice urban deli prior to entry, opportunities to explore the area's cultural attractions, and the availability of a nice shower to wash away the day's vices. All activities that are easy to take for granted until Saturday afternoon beneath the harsh sun as you eagerly wait for Big Freedia to bounce across EF's Tripolee Stage. Sure, hammocks are abundant within the ornately-lit Sherwood Forest, [...]

As the X Games concluded just outside Club Nokia, the electro-funk-rock madness that is Ghostland Observatory was just getting started inside. The Austin duo of Thomas Ross Turner and Aaron Behrens creates an atmosphere with lasers and heavy beats which enable everyone to be completely free for a couple hours. As Turner manned the electronic ship, Behrens (who, yes, cut his long long hair) let loose all over the stage, occasionally picking up his guitar and getting into the groove. The chemistry between the two doesn't get any better. "Ain't no party in a sad sad city." [...]
Sunny, sunny Sunday: ► Ben Harper and Fitz and the Tantrums play their second SoCal date together this weekend. This time they're at the Hollywood Bowl where Vieux Farka Touré will also join them. ► Van Hunt keeps the free outdoor music series in Pasadena going strong at the Levitt Pavilion. ► Foster the People and Kimbra do a second night at the Gibson Amphitheatre. ► Ghostland Observatory bring their electro-funk rock and light show to Club Nokia. [...]

My first Red Rocks show of the summer, Ghostland Observatory with Mimosa and Zion I as special guests - an energetic, dancey, fun filled evening - to think I almost didn't go, I had tickets for STS9 the next night and thought how could this match their performance from Snowball? Not only was it matched, it was TOPPED, call it the Red Rocks magic, call it the crowd vibe, call it our "FukYah FukYah Krew" (which funny enough started at Snowball), the amazing weather, front row experience, new tracks, lasers, or once again Aaron Behrens crazy yet amazing dance moves. I left wanting more and [...]

Yes, we know it's been over a couple of weeks since the second annual Neon Desert Music Festival in my hometown of El Paso, but sometimes life gets in the way. C=T correspondent, Uncle Harry, took in multiple shows and endured the triple digit heat to give us the low-down on what went down in San Jacinto Plaza. Neon Desert 2012 Colors of neon pink, black and green only helped to foreshadow the highly energized and spiritedly eclectic crowed that came together for the 2012 Neon Desert Musical Festival. Held during [...]
The Flaming Lips ’ Record Store Day release Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends is getting a re-release on June 26, but it’s got an extra track tacked on too, in case you didn’t get enough Heady Fwends from the original. “Tasered and Maced” features Ghostland Observatory ’s Aaron Behrens , narrating the story of how he got, um, tasered and maced, over a woozy, dark synth wobble. Aside from a few effects on the vocals, the Lips leave Behrens ’ tale of woe intact – and all the more chilling. Check [...]
