The Noise Pop peeps have done it again. In conjunction with Another Planet Entertainment, they've just announced an outdoor fall music festival on Treasure Island , the other mysterious land mass in the middle of the San Francisco Bay. It's been so long since I've been out there, it's just this exit on the Bay Bridge that I always used to speed past. But come September 15 . . . THE FIRST TREASURE ISLAND MUSIC FESTIVAL [...]

Today is a very special day. And every special day deserves a special mixtape. I'm actually incredibly surprised to get this mix up on time (as last year's mix went up 3 days late...). In honor of this very happy day, I have re-upped the ATG Cannabliss Mixtape Vol. I , which you can grab here (or find on the Mixtapes page above), as well as created this masterpiece. Lets get to the All Things Go Cannabliss Mixtape Vol. II .ZIP: All Things Go Cannabliss Mixtape Vol. II [.zip] [...]

I don't know where i've been the last year, but somehow I managed to let Ghostland Observatory slip through the musical cracks of my life. This duo of front man Aaron Behrens and producer/drummer Thomas Turner is straight outta Austin, TX, but sound like they're straight outta 'where-have-they-been-all-my-l ife, USA.' They've cranked out two albums last year on Trashy Moped Records and things don't seem to be slowing down. I'm not sure if I've ever had a song make me want to get up jump out of my chair and scream within the first two seconds of a song...I can [...]

Ghostland Observatory on KEXP at SXSW ( photo credit ) One of the highlights of last week's SXSW festival was meeting the great people from Seattle's KEXP , who had an extremely busy week to say the least. They spent most of their time holed up at the ACL Studios recording and broadcasting some truly amazing performances, including one from Austin's own Ghostland Observatory . Here's one track that the band recorded: mp3: Ghostland Observatory Sad Sad City (live on KEXP at SXSW) [...]

Finally, the week I have been waiting for. A great week for music in Austin and the end of the month long break from concert in the area. By the time the Faint came through in mid December I was worn out. Now with much time away the first couple of shows start this week. I also kept mildly busy this weekend. The blog now has these easy to use play buttons, no downloads just click and listen. Ghostland Observatory - Sad Sad City [...]
Finals are over and Christmas is rapidly approaching - and we couldn't be happier here at RMDS. To celebrate, Joe (remember him?) and I have collaborated to create our Top 11 songs of 2006 - that we both were able to agree on. (Oh, before I forget, folloiwng our combined list will be some of the songs Joe and I specificially held close to our respective hearts). Anyways, enough with the filler: these our the songs that we conversed about endlessly on the phone over the summer, played on repeat in the dorm, and became devastated over when [...]

GHOSTLAND OBSERVATORY This "new rave" "scene" is seemingly destined to begin and end with Klaxons. Having witnessed Shit Disco (one of maybe 2-3 other bands in this musical revolution) live in what amounted to a horrific mauling of my ears, I can assuredly say that there is nothing ironic about their name and nothing promising about their genre. Despite Austin's Ghostland Observatory sharing similar sentiments, influences and musical targets, they - luckily - have no chance of being groped into the NME's current phase for the simple (and [...]

Welcome to Blog Radio Volume 9 It's something I do for you to let you hear what I am listening to! Is Art capable of predicting the Future? I listen to lots of newer independent music, and a little bit of just about everything else... You never know what you will get in one of these posts. Some of the previous blog radios are still available and I have been [...]

I'm not a fan of cold weather, no sir I'm not. Good thing it will be nice and warm this coming Monday November 6th on the inside stage at Emo's. KVRX and Austin Sound have tag-teamed to present a benefit full of local independent music from Golden Bear, The Channel and Operator, with Car Stereo (Wars) spinning throughout the night. Doors are at 8, the bands begin at ten, and cover is a paltry sum of $6 ($8 if you're under 21). Be there or be square. [...]

In classic Vancouver booking, tomorrow has two shows that people will be all over. The first, the Hold Steady - @ the Commodore with Sean Na Na , is not one I’m too concerned with. Critics love the new record, but I’m not really seeing the appeal. The second, is going to be a good time. The Texas duo, Ghostland Observatory , are bringing their electro funk routine to Richards on Richards. These guys jumped into the spotlight with a great [...]

Mmm, this picture reminds of that pic of The Blow I posted a few weeks back. And coincidentally, Austin's Ghostland Observatory pumps out very similar dance-jams to that Portland duo. Together they are both feuling my complete indie-electro-dance obsession I am going through right now! I gotta give props to Chris over at Gorilla vs. Bear for turning me onto [...]
It is time once again to assess the scene in the ATX. Lots to see and hear this week. Starting off early, much like last week, this time on Tuesday at Emo's with an indoor/outdoor 6 band extravaganza! Outside we find Sparta , Austin based SOUND Team , and Lola Ray , all supporting new albums, while in the cool inside is Viva Voce , Silversun Pickups , and The Kingdom . Down the street at Stubb's , we have the newly revamped Alice in Chains , with [...]

I have so much going on right now and a stack o'cds to share with you. I don't even know where to start. My best place is a performance that I can't get out of my head. The 1:30 in the afternoon dancefest given up to the ACL gods by Ghostland Observatory was, well, phenomenal. These guys come at you with full force electronic charisma and never, ever, stop. Two friends from Austin, Thomas Turner and Aaron Behrens create a sonic clash of drums, guitar and fierce vocals [...]

Ghostland Observatory's ACL performance "was like a sonic countdown on its liftoff to stardom" -- Austin360.com Ghostland at ACL As I've mentioned a couple of times in the past few days, I (along with everyone else in within earshot) was absolutely blown away by Austin's Ghostland Observatory at ACL over the weekend. Ms. Cindy Hotpoint said it best in her Guide to ACL : "These guys don't let up...ever." I think everyone in the crowd [...]
