Ghostpoet moves from Bronswood Recordings to [PIAS] to release his sophomore record, due in 2013

We've asked some of our writers to preview a few of this year's festivals that they're most looking forward to; to offer some idea of what the event is about, and to pick out a few bands and artists that they're most excited about seeing perform. In this installment, we take a look at the End of the Road affiliated No Direction Home ; the newly revamped Field Day and its sibling event The Apple Cart Festival ; the inaugural Nova Festival , and Somerset's Sunrise Celebration. Camden Crawl has become something of an institution across the water since first appearing in the mid '90s. It prides itself on giving an equal footing to both established and emerging acts and for the first time Camden Crawl is coming to Dublin. The line-up is mightily impressive, continuing it's mantra, it has a nice mix of homegrown and [...]
Producers Kwes and Micachu collaborate on the second installment of their tape mixes, with guest drops from Speech Debelle, Ghostpoet and more

Cast your mind back to Ghostpoet's crossover single Survive It and it's the chorus that'll first bite. Those otherworldly yet quintessentially London vocals came from the bocca e polmoni of Fabiana Palladino and, if latest demo Young Thing is anything to go by, there'll be further puffing, panting, ranting and raving over this youthful being sooner rather than later. Mooted to have been snapped up by Kwes.' very own microlabel BOKKLE. , the Warp upstart's gooey mellifluousness and honeyed keys are smeared all over it and, as Palladino chirps: "Young thing I'd like [...]

I'd like to claim I've been keenly following the music of Fabiana Palladino from the second I heard her voice on Ghostpoet's " Survive It " last year. Unfortunately though I simply loved the tune, swooned at the gorgeous vocals and then didn't bother my arse finding out who was responsible for said voice. Thankfully Ghostpoet places more value on the people that made his debut such a success and tweeted a link to Fabiana's new demo late on Sunday night. And what a demo! it's got fretless bass on it WOAH. 802s [...]
New Music Festival | Soundwave 2012 England has its advantages when it comes to festivals. It's close (being where I live). I guess that's about it. So Croatia pretty much wins hands down when you look at it that way. And when you skim through even this tiny NMB pick of the lineup ( full lineup here ) and watch the teaser video you'll see what I mean: De La Soul | Fink | DJ Yoda | Ghostpoet | Submotion Orchestra | Teebs | Mr Thing | Olugbenga | Funkineven [...]

Perhaps its not well recognized, but you can't try to reach in and grab it out.You gotta be in it full up; push it out, kick it out, and drown completely. Whatever it is. "There are some things you learn best in calm, and some in storm." - Willa Cather With a name like Beneix Frederic (aka Fred BNX) its a good guess France is somewhere in the equation. And if it isn't house, its downtempo. Fingerbanger 1 : Zimpala - New Home (don lowed) [...]
This year sees the centenary of the sinking of the Titanic and to mark the event the city of Belfast is hosting a series of events, both historical and cultural. Of particular interest to State readers will be the Titanic Lockdown festival, taking place on 1st / 2nd June at T13 (Urban Sports Park & Shared Cultural Space) and overlooked by Harland & Wolff's iconic Samson & Goliath cranes. The line-up so far features New Order and Happy Mondays as headliners, with support from Anna Calvi, Ghostpoet, Factory Floor, Errors and Lee 'Scratch' Perry'. Festival [...]

Earlier this week I met up for a local cup of coffee with the GHOSTPOET . Those in the unknown, the London-slash-Coventry based he-rapper released his debut LP in the '011, has been on four tours since, scored a Mercury nomination, lost to the PJ HARVEY, and considers himself "a lad with a lisp with some stories to tell". Amongst other thangs. Watch below, as the GHOSTPOET and I chat about the above, alongside a few other matters including his forthcoming album number two, music piracy, plus more.
Last week curators got together and picked the lineups for each of their venues over the weekend (see On The Record vs. Nialler92s London lineup - Charli XCX, Willy Moon, Cymbals & Disclosure ) and this week, Camden Crawl Dublin is announcing those names that have been added to the Dublin event on May 11th and 12th for the 15 total venues its taking over that weekend. Look out for future announcements of my gig in The Grand Social on the Friday with four bands from below's lineup. New names added to the [...]

Sometimes you need a summer holiday but also want to the fun and the freedom of a music festival, so what better way to combine the two than a foreign festival. Take a trip this summer (19-23 July) to Tisno, Croatia, for 4 days of live music, boat parties and beautiful beaches at Soundwave Croatia! And who will you be seeing if you take the flight to Eastern Europe? Already confirmed are the Long Island hip hop masters De La Soul , the indie folkster Fink (pictured above), [...]

The alt-J/∆/FILMS plot has seen another twist. It's good news though. The band are currently touring, released their debut single back in October and just this Monday followed that debut with double A side "Matilda/Fitzpleasure". As long term readers are no doubt aware we've been following the alt-J story with interest for a couple of years now. Indeed it was the gorgeous "Matilda" that first grabbed our attention and found it's way onto our Songs Of 2010 release. Since then the band have seen a name change and free giveaways of demos recorded under the name FILMS. Giveaways followed by [...]
London musicians Tawiah and Ghostpoet performed together recently in a show I'm disappointed there isn't more live footage of. The video shows Ghostpoet's song "Us Against Whatever" featuring Tawaih in what turned out to be an amazing performance. Hopefully they release more footage from the show at some point but until then check out Ghostpoet and Tawiah live above...

Alt-J's set is one of lilting harmonies, piercing guitar lines and the kind of nervous energy that gets better over time.
