After releasing two of the most uniquely impressive albums of 2011 in Tycho's Dive and Matthew Dear's Black City, Detroit-based label Ghostly will follow the latter with a new EP from Matthew Dear called Headcage , which is scheduled for January 27th release. The EP's title track was released just the other day, and after soaking in the tribal fury and wondrous looping synths of "Headcage" over the last couple days, I've posted the Soundcloud stream below, which also allows for a free download.

Mr Matthew Dear graces us once again with his brilliance. The acclaimed Ghostly International label boss hit us with Black City last year, which for me was one of the most perfectly formed pop albums of the last decade. Channelling a lovely meld of Byrne/Bowie/Gabriel (just a few that spring to mind), sprinklings of Prince, and a techno framework (boiled down further with his Audion side project), he really has a bigger personality than most musicians and really deserves more credit for his sheer creativity. A new track from electronic music producer Matthew Dear, "Headcage." The first time I heard of this guy was when he dropped Black City last year. From the sound of this new track, it looks like we're in for more funky, dark new wave tracks with lots of great beats and personality. The track above comes off an EP that's set to drop on January 17th via Ghostly International. Matthew Dear is supposed to have an new album on the way in 2012 as well. Black City is one of my favorite albums produced by Matthew Dear. It was dark, sexy, quirky and showed Dear's ability to craft eerie, often sexually creepy songs that have the strength and character to go well beyond the dance floor. On January 17 Dear will release his Headcage EP, where he worked with other producers and vocalists as well as mixing/tracking at Nicolas Vernhes' famed Rare Book Room studio. The artwork from which Warm Ghost take their name is highly indicative of the music that they make. The piece, Katharina Fritsch's Geist und Blutlache, is both deeply unsettling and haunting simultaneously. Night Manager : Ghost via Surfing on Steam Nothing but hazy, relentless grunge is on the menu for Night Manager , a Brooklyn group with serious potential. You can envisage this track being played at every showcase festival on the planet next year. Charlotte Eriksson's got a bunch of dudes locked in her cell. Seriously. She sounds a little too convincing delivering this line, topping it off with a sneering chuckle, and that's a bit of the problem. Hailing from Sweden and now running her own label in London, young Eriksson and her moniker, the Glass Child , certainly have a story to tell, but you get the creeping thought her message could be told so much better. I'm counting on all my blog pals to book Night Manager during SXSW next year, please. They sound so nonchalant and, musically, never seem to rest in the same spot. I fell in love with the band at some point during the chorus of "Pizza Pasta" and never thought about any other girl. This new track entitled "Ghost" is featured on a brand new seven-inch single courtesy of Japanese-based label Big Love Records . The B-sides are "All Mine" and "Platonic", and how about that romantic looking cover art.
