Gianna Lauren played a wonderful set at Raw Sugar Cafe on March 23, 2011. She opened up for Shotgun Jimmie . I haven't seen her play in Ottawa in quite some time. The turn out was great that night. It was sort of a CD Release show for her second album Some Move Closer, Some Move On . It was nice indie folk pop set she put. One set she got Sarah Hallman to [...]
![Shotgun Jimmie – Late Last Year [Listen/Download]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3188771_lg.jpg)
The only thing I remember of Shotgun Jimmie is the song " Bedhead " (via Letters Have No Arm ) from 20072s The Onlys. A nice catchy rock tune. On March 8th he will drop his new album Transistor Sister on You've Changed Records . Transistor Sister features Ryan Peters of Ladyhawk and Lightning Dust and Jay Baird of Feist and Do Make Say Think stepping in as his backing band. The first single off from the album is called " Late Last Year ". Have a listen to the song. [...]

This year we wanted to do something special for the readers. Instead of asking for remixes, new songs or interviews full of badly phrased questions we thought to ourselves, "Selves, what's one thing we love?" Obviously, something involving the Steelers or Bayern Munich wasn't really an option, but our unashamed love of Hall & Oates was one we thought we could leverage. End result, we asked bands to record Hall & Oates covers, hoping anyone would say yes. In the end, we did ok... we got about 11 songs in time for today's launch, but we also have [...]

So here it is. The LPs list. For anyone that might be reading herohill for the first time, the list might look a little chaotic, but for the readers that have been around for a while, these 30 LPs are ones I've gushed about over and over again. I wasn't going to draw it out for three posts, but the time it took to add the MP3s and format the page was more than I had allotted last night... so sorry for the Biggest Loser type fake suspense. [...]

This is more or less a list of most played and/or my favourite albums from Canadian artists released in 2010 - I don't say "Best" and I don't pretend to have listened exclusively to Canadian content this past year. So let's not dig too deep into this post, it is simply a list of albums that really work(ed) for me, are better than most and are recorded by someone from the great white north. I am also not going into summary of the albums with each below as I am a niche genre music blogger, and lets be honest about [...]

Halifax musician Gianna Lauren has announced the release of her new studio album. Some Move Closer, Some Move On, her sophomore album, will be out October 12th. Check out "Become What You Can't Be" now. Here's the track listing for the album: Become What You Can't Be 19 Months Be Nice Guardian Standstill June Le Vent Marin Stowaway Night Times Oh Feather Waiting Gianna Lauren plays Tranzac in

In these parts, it's an all too common story. A musician finds their groove and departs for the bigger, more fertile grounds of Montreal or Toronto. For every Jenn Grant or Joel Plaskett , there are ten bands that broke up or left Canada's ocean playground behind like it was a sinking ship, hoping that the bigger, less accessible scenes would be the ticket to more shows and more fans. For Gianna Lauren , the intimacy and community the North End provides were the reasons she made the journey to [...]

The lovely and talent Gianna Lauren stopped by Canteen for the "season finale" of Bands Undone . She was accompanied by and touring with Field Assembly (aka Adam Fox). At first I thought it was "Field Music" who I saw awhile ago opening up for Plants & Animals but it was someone else. But it was totally a different musician. Through telling Gianna in person a few months ago, I told her to try contact Kara and she did. Gianna and Adam [...]

For some reason of late, I've found myself wanting to take a train trip somewhere. I'm not sure why exactly, but it just seems like a very romantic, idealistic way to travel. Unfortunately, with two small kids now, it isn't really a practical way to travel. But for those of you who've also been thinking of hitting the rails, here's a great reason to do it over the next month or so. Halifax-based singer-songwriter Gianna Lauren and Windsor, Ontario's Field Assembly (aka L. Adam Fox) will be traveling from Halifax to Vancouver on VIA Rail [...]
