Back in May of last year, when last I spoke of Giant Drag and their upcoming sophomore album, frontwoman and all-around kooky lady Annie Hardy had gone through serious health problems and shitty dealings with the music industry. Fast forward to now, things are looking up. Label has been found, new album will see the light of [...]

Hop Along hail from the distant riverside haven of Philadelphia although along with much homegrown music, Tibetan Pop Stars (lifted from forthcoming debut full-length Get Disowned) was constructed in a vacant warehouse (albeit one in the northernmost reaches of the Pennsylvanian city). The track itself bristles with raw and emotive guitars, and is propelled by Frances Quinian's desperation-embalmed vox and the visceral repetition of the refrain: "Nobody deserves you the way that I do." Sounding like Kathleen Edwards letting her every hair down and dribbling her heart out over a chaotic studio session with The Thermals [...]

Color me eager to hear new material from these 10 artists: Beachwood Sparks — Yes it's true, the twangy psych-rockers, whose last release was back in 2002 on Sub Pop, have a new album that's being mixed. Bone up on their history . Look for perhaps a spring release. Robert Francis (pictured above) — After his August residency at the Bootleg, I expected news about "Strangers in the First Place," the album that Francis has completed [...]
![[Introducing] – ††† (Crosses) – Featuring Chino Moreno of Deftones](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3634598_lg.jpg)
Tweet Chino Moreno and Far's guitarist Shaun Lopez have teamed up to proliferate the internet-fueled subgenre of creepy electronic music that is witch house. Moreno is best known as frontman for the alterna-metal band Deftones, but he's guested on a handful of other heavy bands' releases also. His new project, †††, or "Crosses" in plain words, finds him embracing electronic music through the eyes of a metal-head. The format reminds me of last summer's release by How To Destroy Angels , the electronic side [...]

Giant Drag's album Hearts And Unicorns came out in 2005 and was packed full of cracking tunes that spanned influences from Mazzy Star to MBV and from grunge to a kind of warped suburban Americana. It was a standout from the year, but no one expected to wait six years for a follow-up. In fact, until today, I'd kind of assumed they had called it a day and just faded from view. Not so. Annie Hardy from the band has just made this available via Soundcloud, where she wrote the [...]

Sometimes I think Giant Drag 's Annie Hardy might be from outer space. She has the voice of an elf child, titles her songs like "YFLMD" ("You Fuck Like My Dad") and "My Dick Sux," freestyles with curious rhymes ("I don't wanna be famous, I just wanna sniff your anus"), and on top of it all is so goddamn cute (see above pic). You may recall that in their 2005 single " Kevin Is Gay ," Annie chose to forgo lyrics for the 3rd verse and sing it in "meows" instead. She recently posted a new Giant [...]

Annie Hardy , vocalista do Giant Drag , postou hoje uma faixa nova de sua banda em seu Tumblr . Meowch pode ser a primeira faixa que ouvimos do próximo álbum da banda, que deve ser lançado ainda esse ano. Annie escreveu sobra a música: Meowch is your appetizer (no, you don't get dessert FIRST) to nibble on while Giant Drag's long, LONG awaited album "Waking Up Is Hard To Do" is getting prepped for a late fall release on Roar Scratch Records/Cobraside. I've dotted my i's and crossed my t's [...]
Giant Drag's Annie Hardy just posted a new track to Tumblr . (Thanks for the tip, Stevo.) She had this to say about the song: Read More...
![[Listen] – New Song By Howling Bells – "The Loudest Engine"](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3557109_lg.jpg)
Tweet Everybody needs a bit more gloom-laden gothic country melancholia in their lives. Or so I keep telling people. Howling Bells are one of my go-to "bands more people ought to listen to", and they supply exactly that. Their latest offering is the title track from their upcoming album, "The Loudest Engine", released on the 12th of September on Cooking Vinyl . For me, they'll probably never equal the searing brilliance of "Setting Sun" again, but it's a good demonstration of [...]

Giant Drag played to adoring fans at the Echoplex Tuesday 5.31. Annie was absolutely on fire. —Ward Robinson [View with PicLens]
Stereo Total are true performers in every sense of the word. Their stage presence has always been infused with a high energy quirk that is specific to this French/German pop act, and Tuesday's performance was no exception. There was dancing, jumping, high fiving, and a flurry of fans singing away regardless of whether or not they knew the words (most of the songs were in either French, German, or Spanish). Openers Giant Drag and Batwings Catwings both had their own unique touches to bring to the night as well, with Giant Drag's hilarious commentary on anything and [...]
Tonight is the next and last Check Yo Ponytail until July, but as always expect an exciting and vibrant night filled with quirky fun as we play host to Stereo Total , who flew all the way from Berlin to be with us. Joining them will be some hometown support from the likes of Giant Drag , fresh from the studio after and on to the stage. Additionally Batwings Catwings will be performing, and Hang The DJ's own Scarlet Casanova will be on had to add a bit more local flavor to the international tinge of the evening. [...]

► Hands (pictured) have come a long way since January — tonight the L.A. quartet plays the Satellite, joined by Oberhofer (whose songs you should really check out here ). ► The Check Yo Ponytail party at the Echoplex features Stereo Total and Giant Drag . ► Lykke Li plays to a sold-out Wiltern Theatre, with Grimes supporting. Also: Bruce Cockburn at the El Rey Theatre The Parlotones [...]

The Icarus Line has been making music and mayhem for a decade now, surviving bumps and bruises and embracing the notion that rock 'n' roll should be a bit reckless, if not downright dangerous. Except for a single released early last year, the band has been pretty silent since 20072s rockin' "Black Lives at the Golden Coast." But today main man Joe Cardamone unveiled a new track, "Bad Bloods," along with an announcement that a new album is en route in early August on an imprint called Roar Scratch, which also will release the new Giant Drag album. GD's [...]
Life's been rough for Giant Drag's frontwoman Annie Hardy. Health issues and the music industry haven't been too kind to her in recent years. We did get this pretty sweet EP release "Swang Song" Back in February 2010 but since then, not a word as to when their sophomore album (their debut "Hearts And Unicorns" came out in 2006) would [...]

Your dream is my nightmare. Cordial Invitation by Giant Drag

Annie of Giant Drag @ The Satellite When I heard about GIANT DRAG playing a show at the Satellite for Har Mar Superstar 's birthday I knew I had to check out this rare occurrence. They weren't slated to go on 'till midnight so naturally I got there pretty late. Har Mar Superstar was in the middle of their set so I waited around for a while till it was time. After Har Mar, the crowd naturally cleared out to have a collective cigarette which gave me [...]
[Birthday greetings go out today to Tim Booth of James ...] Top shows leading up to the weekend's big football game: ► It's Har Mar Superstar's birthday party too — Sean Tillman is turning 33, and his band is kicking off a Friday residency at the Satellite with Giant Drag and Marijuana Deathsquads . Har Mar says you should go . ► Tennis visits the Echo tonight. Their album "Cape Dory" is just out on Fat Possum, [...]

White Lies have it rough: people take them far too seriously. Nearly every negative critique of the band paints them out to be dour, joyless guys but no one could possibly write and sing a song as memorable as "To Lose My Life" around a surprisingly infectious chorus of "Let's grow old together and die at the same time" without a sense of humor. While it is true that the London trio don't quite possess the lyrical prowess of Interpol's Paul Smith, burst on to the indie scene long after the Editors/Killers/Arctic Monkeys/Franz Ferdinand did, and don't come anywhere [...]
