Tonight is Game 7 for the Denver Nuggets vs the Los Angeles Lakers. Many didn't think the Nuggs had a chance, but here they are in LA trying to muscle their way in to the second round. I was inspired to make a California mixtape to cheer on my beloved basketball team. George Karl isn't a stranger to this situation and hopefully tonight he can reverse his fortune from the time he was the Sonics' coach and lost a pivotal game 7 vs his current team. CALI-FOR-NYA MIXTAPE [...]
Ushers at the Midland Theater had the worst jobs in Kansas City on Sunday. They'd apparently been instructed to quell dancing at the evening's Gipsy Kings concert. The absurd demand was tantamount to telling Royals' fans at a Sunday afternoon game in July that sweating is forbidden. Movement isn't optional at the joyous, life-affirming performances of the Gipsy Kings. And because under 500 people attended Sunday's otherwise magnificent and sonically pristine show, there was plenty of room to dance. No matter. Music lovers were forced to contain themselves. At least women [...]
You might recognize this spanish remix of the Eagles' 1977 classic, Hotel California. It was used to perfection in The Big Lebowski in the unforgettable introduction of Jesus: Jesus - The Big Lebowski This track has more to offer than just an example of cinematic gold. Give this beautiful, acoustic track a listen! Hotel California - Gipsy Kings

REPOST from 2008 (with slight updating): - I remember when the Apollo 8 astronauts went into space, right before Christmas in 1968. That was a rough year - Martin Luther King and Robert F. Kennedy were shot, Vietnam was a bloody stain on the other side of the world. Violence boiled over into the streets. As Christmas week opened, three men in a little metal capsule hurtled through space toward the moon. The astronauts of Apollo 8 were the first humans to reach the orbit of another planetary body. As they streaked across the dark side of the [...]

Continuing on from the last Jetset there's still a couple late tracks I want to touch on, but the bulk of this post is pretty fresh. ______________________________ ______________________________ _________________ A slew on remixes just got released for Adrian Lux 's Alive amoung which a couple stand out. The Albin Myers remix isn't the best work I've heard from him, but is still worth a listen. He seems to be using a lot more dubstep sounds in his productions lately so if you're into the house/dubstep blend this remix is for you. I thoroughly [...]
I discovered the Gipsy Kings a few years ago, when my sister told me about them. I really like their music because I love the rhythms they use. The Gipsy Kings come from Arles & Montpellier, France but they sing with a Spanish (more specifically Andalusian) accent. In spite of the fact that they were born in France, most of their parents were gitanos (Spanish Romanis, who fled Catalonia during the Spanish Civil War in the 1930s, all except Chico Bouschikhi, who has Moroccan and Algerian roots. They play in the Rumba Catalana style (a fusion of pop [...]
The Gipsy Kings : Hotel California [ purchase ] Spanish guitar? Makes me think of this familiar, yet not, cover of the Eagles hit. The Gipsy Kings are a pop-rhumba-flamenca group hailing from France, although their heritage is Spanish Romani. And this beautifully arranged song is from the soundtrack to The Big Lebowski . It's got one of the best intros ever.
Download five covers of 'You've Got a Friend in Me,' 'When She Loved Me,' and the currently-nominated 'We Belong Together.'

Through its use in a fall TV promo, the group's 1988 single "Bamboleo" still amazes with its exotic rhythms. Gipsy Kings - Home - Shopping - United States - California

I've cheated a little here, penning this a few days in advance just in case something goes awry in our plans, scheduling it to post automatically so you could be here now. But in my mind, it's Wednesday as I write this, legs up in the passenger seat for a short leg of the long drive from San Simeon to Monterey, where my wife's relatives will be putting us up at a seaside conference center and resort that boasts such "authentic" rustic environs that it eschews TV and radio, and provides wi-fi solely in the lobby. [...]

By Sweet Sound of Sunrise The members of Gipsy Kings were born and raised in France, but their parents were mostly Spanish Romani. This distinct heritage is ever present in their music - like the fact that they sing in Spanish. The three brothers, Nicolas, Paul and Canut played with their father, flamenco singer Jose Reyes. They soon adopted Latin American rumba and salsa styles to their music, however, because it was more fit for dancing. They would soon [...]

Day 2 at Bluesfest was another scorching hot weather day. It was somewhat of a slow music night. There was one act I really wanted to see. There was one act (with the advice from a friend) just caught me by surprise. Here is a list of who I saw on day 2. Silvercreek Jesse Greene Gipsy Kings Jonas & the Massive Attraction [...]
![[Album Review]Toy Story 3 Soundtrack](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2672295_lg.jpg)
by teepoo I have yet to see the movie, but I decided to explore the music. The soundtrack was written by Randy Newman who has scored the music for the past Toy Story movie's as well and other Disney-pixar works such as "A Bug's Life", Cars, A Monster's Inc and Princess and the Frog. If you were looking for kids tunes to sing along to then this is not your soundtrack because thats really what its not. The soundtrack is [...]

The title sort of describes it all. This past Sunday, I ended up with a free ticket to see the Gipsy Kings . Right place, right time, essentially. So I got to enjoy a free night of music, and it sort of inspired this post. I had heard a bit of their stuff in the past, but wasn't super familiar with them. The standards they played that I had heard were "Volare" and "Hotel California". Well, during the show, I did the usual with some music talk with the women who had given me these tickets. [...]
