(photo by Sarah Quiara) San Antonio alternative pop girl group trio Girl In A Coma are firing back this summer with their second record, Trio B.C. , set for release via Joan Jett's Blackheart Records imprint on June 2. Mixing elements of surf rock, rockabilly, new wave, punk and 90s alternative, the girls create a melting pot of awesome reverbed guitar sounds, tight rhythm section, pummeling drums and singer Nina Diaz's stunning, uniquely idiosyncratic vocal style. To celebrate the contrast podcast's third birthday, we contributed songs by "trios." You can check out the episode right here . At first I didn't think my pick was necessarily related to the podcast, I just thought it was a kick-ass song, which made it appropriate in my mind. But then I realized that something subconscious must have been at work, because the San Antonio, Texas band Girl in a Coma is named after [...]

This past Friday the 13th, 96.5 the Buzz hosted the free Afentra's Big Fat Morning Buzz Valentine's Day (VD) concert at the Midland Theatre. There was, of course, lots of booze, lots of dirty games like spin the bottle and a cock ring toss, and lots of drunk people slobbering all over other drunk people. I left this concert not only with free condoms and pina colada lube given to me by a drag queen, but also with a new appreciation for modern rock n’ roll. The first band of the night was Innerpartysystem . [...]

Here's the new video for "Their Cell" by San Antonio's Girl In A Coma. They were at one point going to play Club Dada...then they weren't. It so confusing. You know what isn't confusing? How adorable singer Nina Diaz is, I had been denying it for a while, but I'm officially smitten with her.
Find out what the San Antonio based trio has been enjoying in the clip below. MP3: Girl In A Coma - Clumsy Sky

Up and comers Girl in a Coma opened for Tegan and Sara at Terminal 5 recently. The band was met with a small crowd, as New Yorkers show up at the last minute for everything, but this did little to affect their intensity. Lead singer Nina Diaz is a natural attention-grabber and hot like burning. The music makes for a good time, too. The band is signed to Joan Jett 's label, Blackheart Records , which carries a handful of raucous, [mostly] girl-driven punk bands. If [...]

Ok, concert time. My camera is a piece of shit, and I was maybe 8th row back, so the videos are not the best quality (sound is actually pretty good though). First opening act was Girl In A Coma, who I have loved forever and did an amazing job. They sang mostly new stuff (and none of my 2 favorites, "Sybil Vane Was Ill" or "Road To Home") and it was so fast paced. Best picture I got with my shit camera. Next up was City and Color, which was a man [...]

WORCESTER, MA - OCTOBER 4, 2008 Although the Palladium was filled with a crowd that consisted of mostly underage teens (all of whom were anxiously awaiting the arrival of Tegan and Sara ), I have to say, when opening acts, Girl in a Coma and City and Colour took the stage, the audience was surprisingly accepting and enthusiastic. A lot of times those young crowds tend to get a bit impatient with opening acts while waiting for the headliner to take the stage, but I was both pleased with the positive response. Girl [...]

Plus, just in case you missed anything from this week (between ACL , My Bloody Valentine , Ben Folds , and Beck there was a lot), you'll have now have some nice music to accompany your reading...
